Saw this link from another dance studio. This is very good information not only for teachers but for parents and dancers. It is important for dancers to develop the necessary strength and technical foundation before attempting more advanced skills. Although dancers and parents may want to see more challenging and spectacular jumps and turns, dancers must first develop the strength and technical foundation needed to perform them safely. Introducing advanced skills before the body is properly prepared can lead to poor technique, unsafe habits and injury. Progressing gradually helps dancers perform advanced skills correctly, confidently and safely. As dance teachers and studio owners we should be looking out for the well being of our dancers even though the dancers and parents may want their dancer to be doing those turns and jumps that they think is more fun to do.
