HOW TO DEVELOP POWER WHEN YOU STRIKE.
At a recent handcuffing training class I was asked by a young man "how do I develop more power when I strike?"
He looked quite fit and energetic, but when he punched he lost power because of poor bio-mechanics. Here are three of the six basic principals for increasing power:
1. Every technique MUST begin with a stable base. You cannot develop maximum power if you are off balance.
2. Summation of joint forces. Use as many joints as you can when executing a technique. Striking is not just about arm mass/strength, you must use your whole body to develop power.
3. Continuity of joint forces. Use ALL those joints in the correct order. Example: when striking make sure you rotate your foot before you rotate your hip etc.
It is a good idea to have a professional trainer watch your technique so that you can make the necessary adjustments.
