Horsetrader Mag

Horsetrader Mag Canadas largest all advertising venue for information for horse enthusiasts located in New Brunswick

We are a magazine that was created by a mother and daughter team of horse enthusiasts with a vision to create an affordable magazine for people who lived the industry in Ontario and who weren't interested in reading 'how to' articles. Pat and Pam wanted to create a magazine that catered to riders of all ages and disciplines which would be a median guide to the prices of horses and items across the

province. The vision worked and the Canadian Horsetrader is now the largest all-advertising magazine in Canada and was the first to go online with a free flip book. We are now an online only magazine available free of charge on iphones, the web and android devices…download and enjoy at www.horsetradermagazine.com or visit our highly popular fb page…you are here now!!

“The amazing thing about horses is that they are happy giving as long as they don’t feel forced. If a person with a soft heart communicates a request and the horse understands, it is likely that he will make an effort to please the person. The horse is much more aware of whether a person has a soft heart or a hard heart”. ~ Martin Black

So I did something on the spur of the moment yesterday. I entered an English horse show. I haven’t shown in 30 years and my fantastic Jason horse has never shown English or jumped a course of jumps. It was a good day with sone very nice people. I think I may be convinced to do it next year.

OK, so sadly I was hacked on my normal account on the weekend so Im trying to update this older farm page and hoping that those people who get my friend requests accept them. What a horrible experience.

With all the recent abuse and deaths surfacing in horse shows and event; this from Carson James.

The horse shows have ruined more good horses than it ever made”. -Tom Dorrance

Below are some things to be aware of that will help head that off before it starts happening:

This is especially true for performance horses of any kind, but should apply to any horse, all the same.

Generally, what happens is we basically have them curling 5 pound weights during the week, mentally and physically, and then at the shows we asked them to curl 100 pounds.

There’s too much of a gap there. Both mentally and physically.

Start doing these things to lower your vet bills and keep them from getting hot and blown up at shows.

Start working towards loping 10 or 15 foot circles where generally they’re 60 ft.

Do more straight lines, especially at a lope. In an arena this could mean loping squares.

On a straightaway, especially and much more obvious, but they do it in turns as well …every horse will either carry their hip to the right or the left, because every horse is naturally crooked. Start feeling for that and try to keep the withers in front of the tail so they learn to strengthen and carry properly.

And this one may be the most important for mental soundness….

A horse freely opening up their run, and just as freely coming back down, is something most horses know little to nothing about….

Start working towards getting to where opening them up to at least a medium fast run and coming back down is just as familiar to them as walking around.

Start putting some thought into keeping them mentally balanced. As an example —-The biggest mistake you could make with a barrel horse is to stop exhibitioning them once they start working good.

Example with a rope horse….. the worst mistake you could make is not ever spend time roping some slow steers at a trot, or going in a pen and spending some time roping branding style, basically at a walk.

Sorry if the grammar is bad, I do these by talking while I’m driving.

Our newest addition, born early yesterday morning. This itty, bitty boy by SD Prince Caspian and SRS Blue Cloud couldn’t get any cuter.

Without further ado, please welcome GypsyDreams GD Prince Rilian. ♥️

He is a black sabino just like his poppa and we will also be testing for roan. Standing at 30 inches tall, he is all kinds of adorable, sweet and very full of himself already. The girls will have their hooves full when they finally get to meet him out in the pasture.

A huge thank you to Westhills Equine Veterinary Services for your excellent care of Blueberry in the last few weeks. She wasn’t waiting around to foal out anywhere but home.Rilian is early but doing absolutely amazing!

Also a big thank you to Danielle’s girls for all the name suggestions. You are such a big help. Lexi picked this one.
