It’s Monday… and you know what that means...let’s bust another community myth.
❌MYTH: Taxpayer dollars paid for the new pickleball facility, plus there will be ongoing operating costs the Town will need to cover.
✅FACT: The Town’s contribution includes providing a serviced parcel of land (land plus $1.6M in site servicing) and $2M approved by Council in the 2023 multi‑year capital budget for construction.
What’s different about this project is the approach:
✅ The $7.8M Pickleball & Tennis Centre is a shift from the Town’s traditional model of fully funding recreation facilities to a shared partnership.
✅ A significant portion of the funding comes from outside sources. The non‑profit group has already secured $3.64M through grants and private and corporate donations and is continuing to fundraise to complete the project.
✅ Once built, the facility will remain Town‑owned but will be managed and operated by the non‑profit. This means no ongoing tax‑supported operating costs.
Cheers to a new way of building, strong community partnerships, and less pressure on taxpayers.
