“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” - Abraham Lincoln.
Choosing happiness doesn’t mean denying pain, forcing yourself to ignore problems, or bypassing anything 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, for fear of it ruining happiness.
Making up your mind to be happy is more about 𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 of pain, problems, and unpleasant experiences, and then choosing to trust. Trust that you have (and always will have) the inner resources to combat, accept, or move through whatever life offers.
You have, and always will have at least two or the following:
- capacity to process and think things through
- skills you know not of
- resilience yet to be unearthed
- deeper faith than you realize
- professional assistance
- supportive friends or relatives
- the present moment where past trauma (or drama) and future potential disaster do not exist
- capacity to calm your nervous system by deep breathing
- choice to love
- ability to see your own contributions to the problems that perpetuate in your life
- capacity to change
