There are swallows nesting in the upper portion of Mind Over Splatter. If your madness is leading you to attempt the route, please wait until the birds are done with it.

Just a notice - Yamnuska is closed to climbers this year from May until November for trail maintenance.

Hey climbers! The season is well underway. The canyon is in nice shape and plenty of people have already been taking advantage of the nice spring conditions. Let's all make the most of our climbing passion and also strive to keep things safe and responsible during the ongoing pandemic. Also remember to keep dogs leashed - Parks employees are on the lookout.

Have fun out there and climb on!

Left in Cougar Canyon, probably at the base of Mixed Company - A pair of La Sportiva TC Pro climbing shoes. If you have information about these shoes, please call 250 309-5800 and ask for Rob. Thanks.

If you're heading into the canyon, bring insect repellent. Mozzies are the worst I've seen in 12 years.

Hey climbers! The parks are open again, so I expect Cougar Canyon will be busy with climbers this weekend. The pandemic is far from over, but B.C. has done an amazing job of limiting covid-19 transmission. I hope the climbing community can respect that effort and work to maintain it. A few suggestions:

Keep climbing groups small. Two or three people.

Maintain social distance.

Don't put the rope in your mouth.

Learn and practice not touching your eyes, nose or mouth unless you've just washed your hands.

Respect others.

Have fun out there!

Another climbing season is starting, but this year everything is different. Every climber has decisions to make about whether to head to the crags or not.

Climbers tend to be anarchists and rebel at being told what to do. Instead, here are some facts:

-Covid19 is deadlier for the elderly, but many young, fit people have had serious illness. Some have perished.

-This isn't just about you. If you become infected, you can pass the virus on to friends and family before you even know you have it.

-If you decide to climb, maintain six feet of distance between people. Don't touch your face. Avoid putting the rope in your mouth.

-Above all, be thoughtful of others.

Hopefully the urgency of the outbreak will diminish as summer approaches, but let's remain vigilant and look out for each other.

This is probably a breach of etiquette, but the seriousness of the issue warrants quick action. I'm copying a post from the Vernon Climbing page:

"To whoever was rapping in from the top of cougar wall yesterday. What the actual f**k. You sent down dozens of rocks the size of microwaves right on the belay platform for paving. You could have killed multiple people."

I haven't included the name of the person who made the post. They are free to add it here if they like.

The snow is gone and the temps are perfect!

Since someone has dismantled the wooden platform at the base of the first Creekside climb, perhaps a discussion should take place about what to do with the remnants, particularly the base. Any suggestions?

On Saturday, July 15th, tragedy struck when Thomas Padmore slipped while descending Mt. Sir Donald and fell to his death. Tom was well known in the climbing community and his passing has deeply affected many of us. His inexhaustible energy, passion for climbing and giving nature were obvious to all who knew him. His wickedly dry sense of humour was ever-present, as was his psych for outdoor activities. Tom climbed, hiked, skied, snowshoed, all with great enthusiasm. Keeping up with him on a hike or approach was next to impossible.

Tom's absence will be keenly felt for a long time. We miss you, buddy.
