It has taken me a few days to find the words. It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my instructor, Grand Master Richard Parris, on Friday, July 10, 2026.
My wife Claudia and I were truly honoured to spend time with him and his wife, Toni, over the last few years, especially during his final days. Sitting by his bedside, sharing stories, reminiscing about our years together, and simply being there with him are moments I will cherish for the rest of my life.
To the Taekwon-do community, he was a world-renowned Grand Master, respected and admired by countless people. To me, he was so much more. He was my instructor, my mentor, and a man who believed in me from the very beginning.
When I opened Horizon Taekwon-do 25 years ago, Grand Master Parris was always there, supporting me through gradings, tournaments, seminars, and celebrations.
His guidance, friendship, and unwavering encouragement helped shape the instructor and person I am today. My students also respected him immensely and always felt privileged to learn from him.
Although he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on every time I step onto the mats, teach a class, or mentor a student. His influence will forever be a part of me and of Horizon Taekwon-do.
Thank you, Grand Master Parris, for your wisdom, kindness, friendship, and for believing in me. It was an honour to be your student. I will continue teaching Taekwon-do in a way that I hope would make you proud.
Rest peacefully, Sir.
You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
