Twenty-seven years have passed since the official incorporation of the North Bay Nordic Ski Club in 1975. The Club has been at its current location on Northshore Road since the winter of 1978. Much has changed over the years – the appearance of the trails, the snow grooming equipment we employ, the clothing we wear, the ski equipment we use, and the clubhouse facilities we enjoy. The trails that o

nce accommodated a single snowmobile and tracksetter are now up to 6 meter width to allow both classic and skating techniques and the passage of large sophisticated snow-grooming equipment. Our clubhouse, Jackrabbit Lodge, and equipment garage have all been improved steadily over the years. But with all these changes, many things remain constant at the North Bay Nordic Ski Club. The rugged hills of the escarpment north of Trout Lake remain as challenging and daunting as ever; the downhill runs are just as fast. And the great strength of the Club, its spirit of volunteerism, continues to drive the Club in all of its pursuits. The North Bay Nordic Ski Club has grown and owes its success to the innumerable hours spent by the hundreds of volunteers that have come together over the years. Without these people the club would be nothing like it is today – arguably one of the best member owned cross country ski areas in Canada. The preceding section contains excerpts directly from “Kick and Glide – A history of the North Bay Nordic Ski Club; 1975 – 2002” by Dave Minden. This book, published in 2003, provides an excellent 256 page overview of the Club’s history.

All trails except brown groomed with tracks set this morning. Sun is shining and should be a great day for a ski. Warming temps this afternoon so expect some soft spots, especially in the sun! Last day for snack bar and rentals today. Forecast this week looks like spring is coming and we’ll be getting into much more variable conditions. Don’t worry, lots of (spring) skiing left!

Today is the last day the snackbar will be open for for rentals and food purchases. Moving forward day passes will be available by signing a waiver in the Clubhouse and E transferring the fee. Great day for a ski... get to Nordic!

Purple and Green trails groomed with tracks set last night. All other trails on good shape from yesterday’s grooming. Cool temps this morning! Remember as we get into spring skiing, use caution as conditions can change rapidly during a day and from day to day. Looks like chance of snow today with a mix of weather over the next couple of days.

Mid evening ski, no lights needed! And great mid winter conditions! We're so lucky to have this!
