My name is Maya and I have been riding at RCRA for three years now. I have always liked horses, and what started as a fun one-week summer camp experience with my best friend turned into a deep love for horses and a passion for riding.
Riding horses has taught me so much about myself, from building confidence and leadership to practicing perseverance and regulating my emotions. When I walk into RCRA, I am always greeted by the friendly staff and Garfield, the amazing barn cat!
All the horses at RCRA have different personalities and quirks that make them special. Riding different horses in my lessons teaches me something new each time and helps me become a better rider. Along with the horses, my instructors help me improve by targeting what I need to work on, giving me advice, and helping me understand horse behavior. I leave each lesson feeling like I have learned something new or accomplished something I couldn’t do just a week before. That feeling of progress is what makes me so happy after every ride.
The horses also help me feel calm. Whether I have had a hard day or am feeling anxious, being in the saddle always makes me feel so much better. While I don’t have any specific competitive goals right now, I just want to continue to improve my riding and deepen my connection with the horses.
I love riding at RCRA because of the welcoming community, caring staff, amazing horses, and great atmosphere!
