Consider this. Neglecting to imagine and plan for what could go wrong is ~causing~ your negative thinking. It’s why you don’t fully trust yourself.

You imagine the worst case scenario and get consumed by it because you don’t know how you’d respond. So you avoid thinking about it.

Coincidently, this causes more negative thinking because your mind wants to think about it. Your mind wants to prepare for the worst case.

So give your mind what it wants. Imagine what could go wrong and plan the best way you could respond. Give your mind a reason to trust itself.

The problem isn’t that you doubt yourself.

Self-doubt is normal. Everyone experiences it.

The problem is you don’t give yourself reassurance when the doubts arise.

Next time you experience self-doubt, be aware of it and simply remind yourself of why you deserve to be where you are.

I used to think gratitude wasn’t for me.

I figured it was just “appreciating life”. And I already appreciate life, thank you very much.

But over the past few years I’ve been fortunate to gain a little more awareness of my internal monologue. The voice in my head that loves to focus on what could go wrong.

What I’ve noticed is the thoughts in my mind can be trained. I can get more used to thinking one way versus another.

Part of this comes from deliberately paying attention to the good things around me.

Since I’ve started doing this daily, it’s become a habit to find the good in difficult situations.

This is the foundation of an optimistic mindset, and it’s a habit of mind I’ll always be shooting for.

Most importantly, you’re not alone. There is always help and there is always hope.

When we open up and talk about mental health struggles, we loosen its hold on us. We prove to ourselves and others that it doesn’t dictate who we are.

✳️ So show your vulnerable side. It’s the STRONGEST part of you. ✳️

Talk to friends. Talk to family. Talk to mental health professionals. Talk to me. This goes for those of us who are struggling AND those of us who are ready to help. Start the conversation.
