🎪 Student Volunteers Needed! 🙌

Looking to earn volunteer hours while giving back to your community? We're looking for enthusiastic student volunteers to help with event setup and teardown!

Volunteer Shifts: 📅 Friday, August 14 – Afternoon (2-hour setup shift) 📅 Sunday, 6:00 PM – 2-hour teardown shift

Volunteer Duties: ✅ Setting up tents ✅ Setting up temporary fences ✅ Taking down tents and fences after the event

This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours, meet new people, and help make one of our community events a success!

Les membres du Horne Granite sont attristés aujourd’hui par l’annonce du décès d’Eugène Ménard.

Eugène était une figure bien connue du club. Chaque fois qu’il y avait un événement de curling auquel participer ou assister, Eugène était présent.

Il était un membre généreux et un bénévole dévoué. Eugène aimait ce sport et appréciait l’esprit de compétition.

Nos sincères condoléances à Nicole ainsi qu’à toute sa famille élargie.

The Horne Granite membership is saddened today with the announcement of Eugene Menard's passing.

Eugene was a fixture at the club. Whenever there was a curling event to participate in or watch Eugene was there.

He was a giving member and volunteer. Eugene enjoyed the sport and revelled in the competition.

Our sincere condolences to Nicole and all of his extended family.

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de M. Eugène Ménard, survenu le 20 mai 2026, à l'Hôpital de Temiskaming, entouré de sa famille.

Né le 8 février 1954 à Belle Vallée, il était le fils de feu Lucien Ménard et de feu Régina Rivard. Époux bien‑aimé de Nicole Ménard (née Côté), il laisse dans le deuil ses garçons qu'il chérissait profondément : Stéphane Ménard (Annick Séguin), Patrick Ménard (Josée), Luc Ménard. Il était un grand‑papa adoré pour Sébastien, Chanelle et Ariel, qui garderont de lui des souvenirs de douceur et de tendresse. M. Ménard fut prédécédé par ses parents ainsi que par sa fille Linda Ménard.

Eugène laisse également dans le deuil ses frères et sœurs : Mariette St‑Amant (Mark Sargeant), Nicole Ménard, Ivan Ménard (Manon), Monique Fanjoy (Douglas), Chantal Ménard, ainsi que sa belle-famille et de nombreux autres membres de sa famille.

Sa bonté, son humour discret et son dévouement envers les siens resteront gravés dans la mémoire de tous ceux qui ont eu le privilège de le connaître.

La famille tient à exprimer sa profonde gratitude au docteur Donald Davies et à tout le personnel de l'Hôpital Temiskaming pour les excellents soins et l'attention offerts à Eugène.

La famille recevra parents et amis au salon funéraire Buffam Leveille, 251 Rue Shepherdson, New Liskeard, vendredi le 10 juillet 2026 de 18h00 à 20h00. La messe commémoratif aura lieu samedi le 11 juillet à l'Église Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours, Belle Vallée, ON, à 11h00. Père Ghislain Miji ofm, comme officiant. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Eugène Ménard, who died on May 20, 2026, at Temiskaming Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 8, 1954, in Belle Vallée, he was the son of the late Lucien Ménard and the late Régina Rivard. Beloved husband of Nicole Ménard (née Côté), he is the proud father of: Stéphane Ménard (Annick Séguin), Patrick Ménard (Josée), and Luc Ménard. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to Sébastien, Chanelle, and Ariel. Mr. Ménard was predeceased by his parents and by his daughter, Linda Ménard.

Eugène is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Mariette St‑Amant (Mark Sargeant), Nicole Ménard, Madeleine Ménard, Ivan Ménard (Manon), Monique Fanjoy (Douglas), and Chantal Ménard, as well as his extended family members.

His kindness, quiet sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones will remain forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Donald Davies and all the staff at Temiskaming Hospital for the excellent care and attention provided to Eugène.

The family of the late Eugène Ménard will receive relatives and friends at the Buffam Leveille funeral home - 251 Shepherdson Road, New Liskeard, Friday July 10, 2026 from 6 - 8pm. The memorial Mass will be held at Eglise Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours, Belle Vallee, ON, Saturday July 11, 2026 at 11:00am officiated by father Ghislain Miji ofm. ☀️ WE’RE HIRING! Join the Horne Granite Team this Summer! 🥌🏓

Looking for a fun and active summer job? The Horne Granite Curling Club is currently looking for TWO (2) Summer Students to join our team as Facility & Recreation Assistants!

These positions are starting ASAP, so don't wait to apply!
The successful candidates will earn $17.60 per hour for a minimum 24 hours per week.

What you’ll be doing:
🌳 Groundskeeping & Maintenance: Enjoy the sunshine while keeping our exterior looking sharp (cutting grass, whipper-snippering) and keeping the inside safe and welcoming.
🪑 Event Support: Helping set up and tear down tables, draperies, and catering assets for facility rentals.
🏓 Pickleball Operations: Greeting the public and managing court rentals! (Never played? No problem—we will fully train you!)
💳 Customer Service: Running the cash register, taking messages, and answering questions.

What we’re looking for:
✅ Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
✅ Smart-Serve certified (or willing to take the training).
✅ Comfortable with physical tasks and operating lawn equipment.
✅ Requires steel-toe safety footwear. 🥾
✅ Friendly, responsible, and eager to learn!
🗣️ Bonus: Being bilingual is a strong asset!

This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in a fun, community-focused environment. We provide comprehensive training on everything from lawn equipment to pickleball rules.

On behalf of the Horne Granite Curling Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you, and we hope you find comfort in the memories you shared.

Au nom du club de curling Horne Granite, nous offrons nos plus sincères condoléances à sa famille et à ses amis en cette période difficile. Nos pensées vous accompagnent, et nous espérons que les souvenirs partagés vous apporteront du réconfort.

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Denis Gérald DeGrace survenu paisiblement le 30 mars 2026, à l'âge de 86 ans.

Époux bien-aimé de Jacqueline Boulanger, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, dont la mémoire de sa fille aînée, feue JoAnne, décédée le 5 juin 2021(Claude Raymond), Dany (Kim Fortin) et Chantal (Luc Rivard), ses petits-enfants, Zacharie, Audrée (Charles), Chloé (Jean-Paul), Alexi (Valérie), Mattieu (Lena) et Nicolas (Hollie)et arrière-petits-enfants, Imani, Jaiya, Mélia et Tam qu'il chérissait profondément.

Homme travaillant et dévoué, il a fait carrière à Ontario Hydro où il était reconnu comme un gestionnaire juste et respecté. Il était apprécié pour sa force tranquille, son sourire chaleureux, sa générosité et sa gentillesse. Pour plusieurs, il était tout simplement le meilleur boss.

Il trouvait du bonheur dans les plaisirs simples de la vie : voyager, faire du vélo, jouer au curling, écouter de la musique, chanter, danser, faire des BBQ, et savourer les bons repas, particulièrement la cuisine de son épouse. Fier de sa famille, il aimait partager leurs photos et créait chaque année des calendriers remplis de précieux souvenirs.

Homme de foi, il s'est impliqué généreusement dans son église et sa communauté (Chevaliers de colomb, Conseil pastoral paroissial, popote roulante, chorale paroissale)

Il laisse derrière lui un héritage d'amour, de dévouement et de souvenirs précieux.

La famille accueillera parents et amis pour une visite au salon funéraire Buffam Leveille situé au 483 rue Broadway à Haileybury le 10 avril prochain de 19 h à 21 h. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 11 avril prochain à 11 h à la paroisse Sacré-Cœur situé au 116 Dymond cresent à New Liskeard. Un goûter servi au sous-sol de la paroisse après la messe de funerailles.

La famille tient à remercier l'hôpital de Temiskaming, le Temiskaming Lodge, plus particulièrement le personnel soignant de l'aile Triangle Hill pour leur compassion et les bons soins prodigués.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denis Gérald DeGrâce who passed away peacefully on Monday March 30th, 2026 at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of Jacqueline Boulanger , he leaves behind his loving children, Dany (Kim Fortin) and Chantal (Luc Rivard) as well as his grandchildren, Zacharie, Audrée (Charles), Chloé (Jean-Paul) Alexi, (Valérie) Mattieu (Lena) et Nicolas (Hollie) and great-grandchildren, Imani, Jaiya, Mélia and Tam whom he cherished deeply. Denis was predeceased by his beloved eldest daughter, JoAnne who passed away on June 5th 2021 (Claude Raymond).

A dedicated and hardworking man, he spent his career with Ontario Hydro, where he was respected as a fair and dependable manager.

Many described him as the best boss you could ever have. He was known for his quiet strength, warm smile, generosity and kindness.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures—traveling, singing, music, dancing, barbecuing, bike riding, curling, and good food. He especially enjoyed his wife's cooking. Proud of his family, he loved sharing their photos and creating yearly calendars filled with cherished memories.

A man of faith, he generously devoted his time to his church and community (Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels, Church Choir, Pastoral Church Committee).

He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Family and friends will be received at Buffam Funeral Home in Haileybury on Friday April 10th from 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 11th at 11:00 a.m at Sacred Heart Church in New Liskeard. A light luncheon will follow in the church basement.

The family wishes to thank the Temiskaming Hospital and the Temiskaming Lodge, especially the staff working in the Triangle Hill Wing, for their compassion and admirable care.

🥌 Thank You to Topper's Pizza! 🍕

Our afternoon curlers had an amazing Fun Day on March 25th, kicking things off with a game at 10am and finishing strong with another at 1pm.

A big highlight of the day was lunch — and they were incredibly grateful when the manager at Topper’s Pizza generously donated our entire order!

Thanks to this generosity, our afternoon curlers were able to pay it forward by donating $200 from their coffee fund back to the curling club.
