From a small-town gym in Northern Ontario to the bright lights of NCAA Division I basketball.

TDSS graduate and Temiskaming Thunder alumna Ashlyn Anderson has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career with the Indiana Hoosiers Women’s Basketball!

For athletes growing up in Northern Ontario, opportunities to compete at the NCAA Division I level are rare. To earn a roster spot with a powerhouse Big Ten program is something truly special.

Ashlyn’s journey began as a member of the very first Temiskaming Thunder team. Since then, she has relentlessly raised the standard at every level she has touched.

After two remarkable seasons with the Fanshawe Falcons Women’s Basketball, she leaves as one of the most decorated student-athletes in college basketball history.

🏆 CCAA All-Canadian (2026)
🏆 OCAA West Defensive Player of the Year (2026)
⭐ OCAA West First-Team All-Star (2026)
🏆 Fanshawe Women’s Basketball MVP (2025)

And that’s only the beginning.

During her historic 2025-26 season, Ashlyn helped lead the Falcons to:
🥈 The first national medal in program history
🏆 An OCAA Championship
⭐ CCAA Championship First-Team All-Star honours

While rewriting the record books at Fanshawe:
📈 Single-season rebounds record (214)
🚫 Single-season blocks record (49)
💪 OCAA leader in rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage
🔥 A double-double in every game during the 2026 calendar year
🤯 31 points, 26 rebounds, and 10 blocks in the CCAA National Semifinal

A young athlete from Temiskaming Shores dared to dream big, put in the work year after year, and has now earned the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world at the NCAA Division I level.

Ashlyn’s story is bigger than basketball. It’s proof to every young athlete in Northern Ontario that geography does not determine your ceiling.

From Thunder to Falcon.

🏀 Congratulations to Thunder player Lauryn Menard on being selected as one of three North Star Fund essay contest winners!

Through a fund established with the The Temiskaming Foundation by Delia Geary O’Byrne and her sister Judy Geary, Lauryn was awarded $1,500 for her outstanding essay submission.

This annual essay contest helps support local youth as they pursue their dreams, and we couldn’t be more proud to see Lauryn recognized for her hard work, dedication and future aspirations.

🏀 Rep & Alumni Thunder Open Gym Alert 🏀

Missing basketball already? We are too. 😅

We’re opening the gym up for two Thunder scrimmage nights this month! These sessions are open to all current and former Thunder rep players (boys and girls) looking to get some extra runs in, see old teammates, and keep the ball bouncing this offseason.

We’re especially proud to celebrate the 8 Thunder athletes who qualified for OFSAA and the 6 athletes who competed on the provincial stage this weekend.

Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment and for representing our communities so well. We love seeing our dual-sport athletes thrive! 💙🏀🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

⚡️ U17 Boys Season Recap ⚡️

Another season in the books.

This group put in the work all year long practices, tournaments down south and road trips!! They competed hard, represented the Thunder well, and continued to improve every time they stepped on the court.

Thank you to our players for their commitment, our coaches for their time and leadership, and our families for the countless kilometres, weekends, and support throughout the season.

We’re proud of what this team accomplished and excited to see what’s next for this group.
