MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: PAT 💪
We asked Pat a few questions about his experience at Grit, here's what he had to say:
Q: What made you decide to join?
I joined after participating in a fundraiser workout for one of our members. After seeing the sense of community, I took advantage of the free two-week membership. Another big reason was my overall fitness. Simple things, like playing with my granddaughter, were becoming more and more of a struggle, and I knew a change had to be made.
Q: What was your biggest concern?
My fitness level and how I’d be perceived around people who were in way better shape than me. That concern was quickly laid to rest. I started with Strength classes and realized there are options for all skill levels.
Q: What’s the biggest change outside the gym?
My energy level. I can work out and still have plenty of energy to get through the day instead of wanting to lay around on the couch.
Q: Your “wow, I’m getting fitter” moment?
I also umpire softball, and my fitness has been a huge game changer. In previous years, I’d struggle to walk after the first week or two because of all the squatting. This year, the difference was remarkable, and the season has been so much better.
Q: What surprised you most about the Grit community?
The atmosphere. There’s a great mix of people and coaches who know how to push you and help you achieve your goals.
Q: What would you say to someone who thinks they’re “too out of shape” to start?
You’re definitely not! There are classes and scaled options for any fitness level. I’ve gone from strictly Strength classes to adding Mobility and even the odd CrossFit class as I’ve progressed.
Q: Favourite movement? Least favourite?
Favourite is probably deadlifts. I’m struggling with cleans, but I want to keep working on them to get better!
Pat’s progress has not gone unnoticed by his Grit family or his family outside the gym. 🩵
Thanks for being part of the Grit community and showing that you don’t have to be “fit enough” to start. You just have to start. (Preferably here 🤭)
