The benefits of strength training:
- making huge improvements to overall strength
- relative low intensity
- relative low hypertrophy (muscle mass increase)

Strength training helps you work towards benefits and goals without “bulking up”. Training to become stronger and training to get bigger muscles are vastly different, it’s important to know the difference!

Training with the goal of increasing muscle mass
General guidelines to follow:

1. 3-6 sets per exercise
2. 6-12 reps per set
3. 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes of rest between sets
4. Resistance should be about 65% of the maximum weight you’ve lifted for that exercise (for optimal stimulation)

The goal is muscle fibre stimulation, working the muscle a lot in a short period of time, and giving the muscle little time to rest. Try this next time you’re at the gym!
