Many of us are splitting hairs to better our ammunition. A few thou either way on group size will affect how we accept our loads. For more accurate measuring of group size this is what I do. I put a tab of masking tape on the back of the target. That flattens out the holes so I can measure them more precisely. Then instead of trying to determine by eyeballing the center of hole, I have found I can measure outside to outside with my calipers better. Then to determine center subtract one diameter. In this case outside to outside measurement is 0.695". Minus one diameter 0.308" equals a group size of 0.387". At 121 yds that's 0.35 moa.

Most scope ring manufacturers strongly condemn boring their scope rings. I cannot disagree with their recommendations. If issuing a blanket one sentence recommendation, I'd do the same. Why? For me it's mostly because it's easy to screw things up any time you remove metal from almost anything.
Many times we do not require boring scope rings.
However, one over looked component of the discussion is the ring manufacturers do not have control on what their rings are being mounted on. So while their rings are awesome, what they sit on may be less so.
We align all rings. Sometimes not boring. Sometimes a little boring. Sometimes more. A blanket method does not cover everything. But at the end of the day, the rings line up, the project is range tested, everytime.

Custom Re*****on M700 – 7mm PRC

Built from the ground up as a serious long-range rifle. The action was trued and squared to ensure perfect alignment and repeatable accuracy. It’s fitted with a 26" spiral-fluted barrel from International Barrels Inc., Varmint/Sendero contour, cut with a 1:7.5 twist to properly stabilize heavy bullets and finished with an 11° target crown.

For this build, the scope screw holes were drilled and tapped for heavy 8-40 hardware to maximize strength and reliability. The rifle runs a TriggerTech 2-stage trigger, clean and predictable, set at 1 lb 0.2 oz on the first stage and 2 lb 1.0 oz on the second.

The H-S Precision stock features a full-length aluminum bedding block. It’s glass bedded and fully free-floated for consistency shot to shot. Ken Farrell mounts are glass bedded as well, topped with Nightforce optics.

Weight comes in at 12.0 lbs bare rifle.

As with every rifle we rebarrel or scope, it was range tested before leaving the shop. At 108 yards, three groups averaged 1.42 MOA with a best group of 1.354". At 211 yards, eight groups averaged 0.87 MOA, best group 1.429", in winds gusting to 11.7 mph. Testing was completed using Hornady 180 gr ELD-Match ammunition.

Every build gets proven on the range, not just on the bench.

Weatherby MK-V stock restoration update: six coats in and we’re into the polishing stage. Just fitted a custom Pachmayr F325 recoil pad to finish it off. It’s starting to really come together — smooth, clean, and built to last.

Aside from repairs, we also take on full custom builds.
This project starts with a Re*****on Model 700 action, fully squared and trued. It’s fitted with a 24" International Barrels Inc. Standard Hunter–contour barrel featuring spiral fluting, 5R rifling, and a 1:10" twist, along with an International Barrels Inc. three-gill muzzle brake. Additional components include Kwik bottom metal, a TriggerTech trigger, and a Richards Microfit walnut Marksman stock with a 1" Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad and a 2" Picatinny forearm adapter.

The rifle is pillar and glass bedded, free-floated, and finished with a hand-polished oil finish and a custom Cerakote treatment. Optics are handled by a Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6–18x44mm with a 35mm main tube.

On initial test firing, in a 4.7 mph crosswind, the rifle produced a nine-group average of 0.74 MOA, with a best three-shot group measuring 0.492". Results like that make these projects especially satisfying to send out the door.
