Beaton Arm Crossing Association BACA

Beaton Arm Crossing Association BACA Replacing the ferry at Galena Bay with a fixed link - bridge and causeway.

BACA was renamed from ALTIA with the main thrust of creating a fixed link across Upper Arrow Lake near Beaton Arm. It is hoped that this would resolve the long standing problems with transportation on a route presently served by ferries running 19 hours daily.

AGM on Nov 6, 2017 was attended by 17 people. Anyone, who wants to join BACA can do it at NAPA, Nakusp.

December 28: once again the Trans Canada is closed between golden and Revelstoke. Guess what detour some are taking?

I talked to Tom Tasaka of SNC Lavalin about the fixed link. It turns out he was the one who worked on the ferry landing at Galena and Shelter Bay back in the sixties!
The contact came via Ray Hascarl, who told Ken Marshall about a 220m bridge joining two causeways on Lake Williston. The bridge was built by Ruskin Construction so I contacted Mark Smith and he said I should talk to Tom Tasaka.
Mark also told me about funds available through Industry Canada - we'll look into that after Christmas.
Mark said that the Sea to Sky highway is a kind of a toll road, but individual vehicles don't actually pay a toll. He called it a "ghost toll". Now I never heard of such a thing but there are a lots of things I haven't heard of! Apparently the way it works is an outfit puts up the money, say $100m and the government pays them back somehow probably according the volume of traffic. Has anybody hear of this system? I wonder how it could work for Beaton Arm Crossing...

Hi! Check back here for an update.
We had a great meeting with Ministry of Transport on December 16. We presented our business case, which is on our website: www.ArrowBACA.ca (check it out) and pretty well said the fixed link is the way to go, forget about a new, bigger ferry!
Norm Parkes said he will get back to us in a month or so.
We are working on other options like "ghost tolls" and how to build a causeway without putting dirt in the water. (Do most at low water...)
More in a few days.
