O'Sullivan's Rainbow

As our season comes to an end the trees are blazing with golden color of fall. Many smaller migrating birds are showing up daily!
Only a few Geese flying overhead means not quite cold enough up North yet for the push south. Black Mallards are flying in and most adult Loons have left as their young are left to learn the route to the wintering area on their own.
Ryan and I have been somewhat busy getting ready for closure but the fishermen that were here over the past couple weeks had some great fishing when the weather permitted. We will be trying out our skills if that is what it takes this week. The wind usually picks up in late Sept. into Oct., the fish are stacking up in the deeper water 25 - 35' near the breaks and deep flats. Raking leaves during a fishing trip can be quite rewarding! Give it a try.
Trolling deep running minnow lures was a good fall pattern to try for those not finding fish in the usual areas. As the water levels are extremely low fish were not in the haunts most fishermen find them in late fall. I should listen to myself when giving advice, only to have some come back and say how good it was.
Shelly and I feel blessed over the many years of getting to know so many of you. We consider both new customers and "of many years", along with those of you unable to continue the trip north and some no longer with us, being in the family of O'Sullivan's Rainbow, of our Family.

As fall season is upon us here in the Boreal forest region all is quiet on the forest fire front. Just a reminder that fires are not permitted between 2 hrs after sunrise until 2 hrs before sunset. Unless used as the cooking source or for bodily warmth. I have questioned authorities on where in writing I could find this regulation but still have no answer.
Fishing in general has really caught 'fire' the past two weeks with pink in color the go to bait choice. I'll be jigging my custom color of pink and purple by Lure Magic and pink / white / blue which some camp fishermen recommend tipped with minnow. Pink bladed harnesses with a crawler are also turning the heads of finicky 'Eyes', ask me... I don't know why. Laker's have been somewhat active with a few released in the past three weeks. I hope this is an indication that the fishery is recovering by the releases over the past five years or so.
Pike action never slows for eaters but the big boys are not playing nicely yet. Soon there should be some nice size fish showing as the water temps fall. Medusa and other most ugly forbidden baits will be top choice's. Mike and Mike recommend casting near islands with the last of lively w**d growth for the toothy critters. Also try near break lines that hold young of year walleye and perch.
