A break from the heat of summer and finally some much needed rain. The fire that was near us seems pretty well under control for now. Didn't have to pack up but it crossed our minds. Thank you for all the concerned thoughts and prayers.
Now for the fishing info of past weeks and prospects. The season started out slow as most of you saw in previous posts about the late ice and snow. This didn't have an effect on the bite as summer approached with good angling for all species. Releasing Lake Trout to fight another day has seemed to be helpful as the past couple years anglers have noticed a slight increase in incidental catches while prowling for the meal of choice, Walleye. Excellent fishing progressed into early summer as new w**d growth gave walleye, pike and perch as cool place to hide as the water temps increased due to extended hot weather.
Leeches have outshined all baits the past three weeks under slip bobbers. Crawlers pulled on spinner rigs and jig fishing have all been bringing in fish on choppier days. Trolling the suspended bite is catching on with fish in the 12-14' range. These fish are usually larger so please practice catch and release, this helps ensure the fishery stays healthy.
Due to the late spring if you're not finding fish in the favorite fishing hole try something different and explore a new area. Fishing for all species is a bit shallower the normal and the w**ds are key along with the prevailing wind. Soon the bite will show up on the mid lake humps and breaks.
Chow, have a great day. See less
