THROWBACK THURSDAY. If you need an excuse to miss work this season to go sledding with your friends on a "safari". In the late 1960’s and 70’s before sanctioned snowmobile trails were formed groups of sledders would make their own trails and visit local hunt camps and sugar shacks. We called these trips a “safari”.

True sled-heads will understand.

I am posting this with a heavy heart. 😢😢😢

I love snowmobiling and everything that comes with it... but this is taking up too much of my time. I am struggling to keep up with the everyday chores of cooking, cleaning and maintaining my home, so something has to give. I have decided to get rid of my gear.

Below is a list of what's available. Serious inquiries only, and please don't insult me with low offers.

1. Vacuum cleaner
2. Dustpan and broom
3. Mop and bucket
4. Lawn Mower
5. Leaf blower
6. Laundry detergent
7. Iron
You have to make sacrifices for what you really love ......

😉

THROWBACK THURSDAY. in the late 1960’s and 70’s before sanctioned snowmobile trails were formed groups of sledders would make their own trails and visit local hunt camps and sugar shacks. We called these trips a “safari”. For the 2026 27 season, Riverside S.C is bringing back the “safari” with a group ride every Friday right from the clubhouse when trails are open. Now called “Riverside S.C Trails are Calling Riding Group”. We did four successful rides last year to varies locations in our region of 220 -320 km rides including a lunch stop. The purpose is for sledders that may not have anyone to ride with to join a group of likeminded sledders to enjoy great trails, food, and fun and to meet new riding friends. Enjoy!

A Big Thank You to all of the great Landowners that allow the Riverside Snowmobile Club to have trails on their property this season. We also must give thanks to the small group of Riverside volunteers that are now removing trail signage from our 164km trail system.

While Riverside is likely not to be directly impacted by either of the proposed routes, the effects of disconnected trails across the district will be significant. As noted in the OFSC statement, the cost of any infrastructure. (overpass/underpass) required to maintain trail connectivity will be astronomical and far beyond the capabilities of organized snowmobiling. It is incumbent on every snowmobiles to become informed on the topic and let their opinions be known.

As part of the public consultation process, the OFSC has shared its perspective on the proposed ALTO high-speed rail network and the importance of maintaining trail connectivity, respecting private landowners, and protecting the up to $6B in economic activity generated each season. Without coordination and consultation to retain snowmobile trail connectivity, the proposed high-speed train network would critically damage organized snowmobiling in Ontario.

Riverside S.C is looking for input from the snowmobiling community if there is interest if the club has a in season Antique Snowmobile Show and Shine followed with a bush trail ride on "skinny trails" (8km trail loop). Just like the trails were in 1969. We are looking at a Saturday in Feb 2027 for the show and shine , breakfast and vintage ride followed with a hot lunch and awards. Everything will be right at the clubhouse with sleds on display from as early as 1959 to 1995.
You can provide comments or messenger us right here on our page. Let us know if you have vintage sleds and that you are interested in not only showing them but to fire them up for a short safari on "skinny trails" The trail loop will be groomed to 4 ft wide as you wind through a scenic forest trail.
