Inari, Finland’s largest municipality located high above the Arctic Circle, is home to the country’s northernmost indoor rink and ice hockey club, Tunturi-Kiekko.
Due to the small population and vast Arctic distances, boys and girls play together on the same junior teams, while some dedicated players commute from as far as Kirkenes, Norway.
During the winter holidays, local life revolves around extreme cold, dark skies, and playing hockey on outdoor rinks under the Northern Lights.
Despite being hundreds of kilometers away from major cities, the tight-knit community gathers together over local reindeer pizza to enthusiastically cheer on the Finnish national team.
