So, VICTORY MMA 14:

Good event well organized. Match up were good as is usually the case for Victory events. The main event was very interesting: two young guys with a nice stand-up (but perhaps lacking some grappling). A beautiful knock-out...with the trademarks of kyokushing karate in the mix...OSU! Hope the opponent is doing well. Respect. He gave a great performance.

On the bad side, I have never seen such a bad set of judges for MMA...unreal...as if they have never witnessed a single MMA match and don't understand at all the intricacies of the game. Some poor guys were cheated of their victory (I remember one with a very nice groundwork who caught (but failed to finish) his opponent several times...armbars, triangle, knee bar and lost on decision).

There was also a controversial stop in the heavy weight category. The ref - a professional MMA fighter - made the call to stop the fight resulting in a TKO. Hard to say if it was justified. This said, I would not throw the stone at the guy: he erred on the side of cautiousness and probably did well given the size (and the size difference!) of the two protagonist and that of the fight gloves.

Please fix the judging and we will definitely come back...in or out of the cage!

Nothing wrong with Chinese Martial Arts...but this is shameful...those 'masters' would be destroyed in a manner of seconds against any modern MMA fighter with 3-4 years of training under their belt. Having done Chinese Kung-Fu for some years, I would say that most of the issue comes from the way of training (and not the actual science)...and that way of training is sub-par because of the very authoritarian Chines Martial Arts culture where you can't ask, let alone challenge, anything that is said to you. That cultural difference between East and West approaches is a big factor making the Western armies, throughout history, the most feared and deadly. My 2 cents.

How often do you get to see an actual Kung-Fu grand-master battle another practitioner? In this vintage clip, we have to look all the way back to January, 1954 to see.

It is time the UFC wakes up and starts paying their fighters properly. Glad to see talented individuals test the free agent market. Hopefully they will eventually get what they deserve.
