The Montreal Iceholes were one of the first teams born out of Le Puck Quebecois' expansion season of 2006, when the league grew from 1 to 5 clubs. After an early identity struggle (the team’s name changed from the Spillovers to the Debbie Travis Facelifts before settling on the Iceholes… all prior to the start of their inaugural season), this group of castaways... I mean free agents, soon became k
nown around the league as “that red team.”
Despite having seen more ups and downs than a tire on a Montreal road in spring, the scarlet-clad squad has continued to exemplify the spirit of the HAA through its 6 seasons, with a combined record of 34-57-18 (which includes winning records in each of the past 2 campaigns). Franchise highlights have included:
- Briefly but successfully reviving the 19th century “rover” position during a 2009 victory in which goalie Jean-Maurice Breton only arrived mid-second period
- A first-round playoff win in the 2009 season against regular season champs Le National which prompted league-organizer Jeff Waye to inquire by email if a typo had been made on the stats website
- Winning the "Beer Masterton" award and the 15 cases of St-Ambroise that comes with it for fewest PIM's in 2010. Party host and defenseman Luc Mantha got through the rest so he could regain use of his bathtub.
- Pretty much any properly-executed breakout.
