Rules and Regulations
1. This tournament is organized by Montreal Chinese Bowling Association
2. Eligibility
This is an invitational tournament. Tournament director will handle any questionable circumstances.
3. Venue
Laurentian Lanes, 222 Montee de Liesse, Saint-Laurent, QC, H4T 1N8
4. Date and Time:
October 11, 2025 - Registration time: 09:30 am to 10:00 am
October 12, 2025 - Registration time: 09:30 am to 10:00 am
5. Classification
Division A – Handicap (see below for handicap calculation)
Division B – Handicap (see below for handicap calculation)
6. Entry fee:
- CAD 250
7. Averages (accepted only from WTBA/USBC/CTF or their affiliation’s sanctioned leagues)
- Highest of CTF, USBC and other sanctioned average (minimum 21 games) of 2023-25 Winter league, other sanctioned averages need approval/validation from their associations.
- 2025 summer sanctioned league average will be used if it is 10 pins or higher and with minimum 21 games.
*** It is the responsibility of bowler to verify and report their highest sanctioned regular, challenge and sport league averages with minimum 21 games. Fail to report the correct average will lead to disqualification and forfeiture of games, prizes and standings aside from any other penalties that may be imposed.
- Bowlers without acceptable average, Tournament director will assign an average based on the bowler’s previous bowling history if any.
*** MCBA reserves the right to accept, reject or re-rate the average of a bowler
8. Handicap
Standard average will be used.
- Division A – 40% of (220 minus standard average)
- Division B – 80% of (220 minus standard average)
- Man maximum handicap is 50, woman maximum handicap is 60.
9. Registration
Registration period: - From Sep 9 to October 10, 2025
10. Day 1
October 11, 2025 Lane oil pattern: TBD
All bowlers will bowl 7 games.
All score with handicap will be carried forward to day 2.
11. Day 2
October 12, 2025 Lane oil pattern: same as day 1
All bowlers will bowl 5 games.
Top 12 in Division A (total 12 games pinfalls with handicap) will advance.
Top 12 in Division B (total 12 games pinfalls with handicap) will advance.
If a bowler has the same position in both divisions, the Division A position will take precedence.
12. Final
Lane condition: will not be redressed.
- Match 1: 1st to 4th seed will advance to Match 2, 5th to 12th position bowl 1 game, the winners (4) will advance.
- Match 2: 1st to 4th seed vs Match 1 Winners (4) will bowl 1 game. 4 Winners will advance to Match 3.
- Match 3: Match 2 winners (4) will bowl 1 game. 2 Winners will advance to Final.
- Match 4: Match 3 winners (2) will bowl 1 game for the Championship.
13. Prizes – All divisions based on 24 bowlers.

14. Tie breakers
In case of a tie – 2 frames roll-off, 9th and 10th frame
With 1/5 of handicap rounded down added to the pinfalls where applies
15. Etiquettes
- One lane courtesy will be observed.
- Non-CTF/USBC approved powder or substances are not allowed to use.
Please consult Tournament director before applying anything on the approaches or bowling shoes.
- Only tournament participants and officials are allowed in bowler’s area.
- It is the responsibility of participants to verify their own scores. Any discrepancy will lead to disqualification.
16. Dress code
Men and women participants must wear shirt and casual slacks, shorts, trousers or jeans (jeans with holes, shorts, cut-offs and athletic shorts are not allowed). Traditional collared shirts, mock-collared shirts and collarless bowling jerseys are all permitted. Women any also wear capri pants, skirts, culottes or skorts. Tournament director will handle any questionable circumstances.
17. Bowling balls
- It is the bowler’s responsibility to ensure that all bowling balls used during the tournament are verified legal under CTF/USBC specifications.
- With the elimination of balance holes as of Aug. 1, 2020, bowlers may have up to five holes for gripping purposes and all gripping holes must be used on every delivery. A bowler who chooses not to use a thumb hole will need to mark by scribe, engraver, or tool their intended center of palm with a plus (+) mark to indicate their grip orientation. Tournament committee reserve the right to examine the balls used by the participants. Use of an illegal ball will lead to disqualification and forfeiture of games, prizes and standings aside from any other penalties that may be imposed.
- Altering the surface of a bowling ball by the use of abrasives, cleaners or polish is prohibited during competition. The outer surface of the bowling ball may only be cleaned with a dry towel/shammy once the bowler has begun competition.
18. MCBA adjudication
This is a non-sanctioned tournament. However, all CTF/USBC tournament rules are applied.
- MCBA reserves the right to accept or refuse entry to this tournament.
- Any disputes will be settled by the MCBA tournament committee.
- An appeal must be submitted in writing to MCBA within 7 days after the tournament for MCBA’s final decision.
19. Dinner
A dinner banquet will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 7:30 pm at Oriental Fusion 7373 Décarie, Montréal, QC H4P 2G8. All participating bowlers are free of charge. Please note that all non bowlers will have to pay $40. No substitutions no exception. Please confirm if you attending and if you are bringing someone with you before October 4, 2025.
