Give it up for Biggie D 🪓🎯

Hello my name is David but most people call me Dave, I have been working for the town of riverview for 8 years now in the Parks and Recreation division of the town. During the summer I take care of the sports fields and in the winter I work at the a Bryon Dobson arena where I take care of the ice, and yes I do the most Canadian thing you can do and drive a Zamboni.

I started my axe journey almost by accident, I was out with my family and walked by the timber lounge in Moncton and the sign said open lanes come try axe throwing so we did, that was in April 2023, I went back 2 more times that month I was hooked so the axe coach (Nick) said you should come to league night it would be cheaper then coming every week, so I did.

I have gone to the Canadian Championship in 2025 and I have won one league where I battled my rival Tim to the very end. I have won two beautiful hootie awards which are made by the most talented Roger McPhee. My goals are to eventually make it to a world championship and may be even win a league night over all championship.

We’re highlighting our CRC Team Members on the road to the World Championships in Sweden July 30 2026!! 🌍 🇸🇪 🪓

Sam:

I started throwing axe at a staff party and decided to give the league here in Moncton a try. Who knew that six years later I would have made so many great friends and improved so much?
Here are a few highlights from my journey:
• Attended my first World Competition as an official at the Worlds in Barrington in 2022.
• Competed at the Canadian Championship in Barrington last year.
• Won the Cash Cup last fall.
• Finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Moncton Spring League this year.
• Finished 2nd and 3rd in the Moncton Winter League.
I'm very excited to be attending this year's World Competition as a competitor.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey and who is helping us attend this event in Sweden. Your encouragement and support mean a lot to me.

J’ai commencé à lancer des haches lors d’une staff party et j’ai décidé d’essayer la ligue ici à Moncton. Qui aurait cru que six ans plus t**d, j’aurais rencontré autant de bons amis et que je me serais autant amélioré ?
Voici quelques faits saillants de mon parcours :
• J’ai participé à ma première compétition mondiale en tant qu’officiel lors du Championnat du monde à Barrington en 2022.
• J’ai participé au Championnat canadien à Barrington l’an dernier.
• J’ai remporté la Cash Cup à l’automne dernier.
• Cette année, dans la ligue de printemps de Moncton, j’ai obtenu des 1re, 2e et 3e places.
• Cet hiver, dans la ligue de Moncton, j’ai obtenu des 2e et 3e places.
Je suis très hâte de participer au prochain Championnat du monde en tant que compétiteur.
J’aimerais remercier toutes les personnes qui m’ont soutenu tout au long de ce parcours et qui nous aident à participer à cet événement en Suède. Votre encouragement et votre soutien comptent énormément pour moi.

We’re highlighting our CRC Team Members on the Road to World’s, Sweden, July 30, 2026!! 🌍 🇸🇪 🪓

Mel:

I’ve now been throwing for 6.5 years, competing in various leagues and club events, both indoors and outdoors, and while I have yet to win a league night, I know with practice comes progress and I’ll get a win one of these days!

In August 2024, I competed in Thirsk, UK, finishing 8th and improving my GAC ranking from 21st.

In October 2024, I tied for the most bullseyes at the Maritime Open in New Germany, NS. I participated in International Women’s Day tournaments in March 2025 and 2026 at the Dartmouth Timber Lounge, enjoying the camaraderie of strong, like-minded women.

Summer 2025 was tough due to sciatica, causing me to miss the summer league. After physio and acupuncture, I resumed practice. At the Canadian Championships in August 2025 in Barrington, I faced lower scores and throwing issues, which continued at the second Maritime Open I attended. However, I enjoyed the events and extra practice.

I partially regained my groove, setting a new personal best in-league with 123/150 and 13 bullseyes in October 2025, earning the Hootie award. Fingerless gloves improved my grip and consistency, while I continued to evaluate my throwing form. I won second place in the female division of our last fundraiser competition in April of this year, boosting my confidence.

With ample practice between events, we’re in the early days of summer league, and it’s crunch time! Less than two months from the Worlds in Sweden, my goal is to do my best and possibly improve my GAC ranking. I’m excited for the experience!

We’re highlighting our CRC team members on the road to the World Championships! Sweden, July 30, 2026! 🪓 🌍 🇸🇪

I started throwing axes in league at the Moncton Timber Lounge in 2019, competing in approximately three to four leagues each year. Through dedication and consistent practice, I have continued to develop my skills and passion for the sport.

One of my notable accomplishments was competing at the outdoor competition at Wild Axe Park in Barrington, Nova Scotia, where I finished 7th overall in the Men’s Division. In August 2022, I was also invited to serve as a Target Judge at the World’s Double Bit Axe Throwing Championship in Barrington, Nova Scotia, where I judged the Junior, Women’s, and Men’s Semi-Finals.

After taking time away from throwing due to shoulder surgery, I returned to the sport with renewed determination and continue working toward new goals in competition. My goal is to compete at the World’s Double Bit Axe Throwing Championship in Sweden 2026 and continue representing the Maritimes and Country in the sport I enjoy.

Dan has also won 1 League Night and his top score in a League night at the Moncton Timber Lounge is 111/150 pts!

We’re highlighting our CRC Team Members on the Road to the World Championships, Sweden, July 30th, 2026! 🌍 🇸🇪 🪓

Nadine:
I started throwing axes in January 2019 at the Timber Lounge in Moncton, NB. Since then, I have competed in 3-4 Leagues each year, and spend much of the Summer practicing at home on my outdoor targets, throwing an average of 5 days a week.

My axe throwing Journey has included a few setbacks, such as surgeries that temporarily prevented me from throwing, but my passion of the sport has always motivated me to keep going and keep improving.

Some of my proudest accomplishments are earning 2nd place in the Ladies Division at the Maritime Invitational September 2024 and winning 3rd place in the Team Event at the Canadian Double Bit Axe Throwing Championship in August 2025. I have also achieved several top 10 finishes in both Men’s and Women’s Competitions.

Looking ahead my goal is to finish in the top 20 at the 2026 World Double Bit Axe Throwing Championships in Sweden while continuing to represent New Brunswick, CRC and Team Canada and grow within the sport I love.
