When heading into the back country, a bear is a visitor you don't want to encounter at camp. A good camping barrel keeps food and scented items organized, protected and easy to carry for stowing out of harm's way. Just remember that a food barrel is not bear-proof and must still be stored properly.

Where was the last place you spotted a bear? For us, it was this little cub in our store! In honour of , help us choose a name. Suggestions?

Cherry, hickory or walnut: three locally sourced Canadian hardwoods, chosen for their strength and natural beauty. Each Esker Bucksaw is made in Canada and finished by hand by skilled craftspeople, drawing on generations of woodworking knowledge.

Its traditional, packable design pairs a 24-inch Bahco blade with a durable nylon tensioning line for dependable cutting in the bush. Over time, with care and maintenance, the wood develops a rich patina, signifying the years of service in the bush it provides it's owner.

A tool made to be used and passed down through generations. If you appreciate good-looking, well-made gear, this one is a must-have, in our opinion.

Whether you have a full weekend trip planned, a quick day hike in mind or something hastily organized on Friday afternoon, we hope you make the most of it.

And whether your plans call for a Kantamus 60L fully loaded for a long weekend or a Trangia Micro for a quick lunch on the trail, we have dependable gear for both, and plenty in between.

Where are you heading this Labour Day long weekend?

The campsite is always exactly as expected, and the weather cooperates all the time.....said no camper ever.

That’s why the new Savotta Laavu Tarp is so useful. Its simple square design and 17 tie-down loops give you plenty of ways to adjust your setup to the site, terrain and weather. Use it as an overnight shelter, a protected cooking area or additional cover for your gear.

Made from 70D ripstop nylon with a waterproof PU coating, it also features a taped centre seam for dependable weather protection. At approximately 900g, it gives you versatile coverage without adding too much weight to your pack.

Simple, adaptable, smartly designed and built like a tank, as you’d expect from Savotta.

Happy International Dog Day to our favourite four legged adventure buddies. Nothing beats sharing the campsite with a loyal trail companion. We'd love to hear from you.

Trangia is simple by design. Choosing the right setup can still raise a few questions.

What size do you need? Which material makes sense? Spirit burner or gas? And which accessories will you actually use?

And what does Tim’s Trangia cookset look like after 18 years of use? All right, that one might just be us. But 18 years is a respectable field test, and he shows you the evidence in the full YouTube video.

Head to our YouTube channel as Tim breaks down the Trangia system and explains how the different cooksets, burners, fuels and accessories work together. It’s a practical place to start if you’re considering a Trangia, or want to get more from the one you already own.

“If you put an axe head under your doorstep, it has never happened that a troll has entered the house.”
Well, there you have it. You now know what to do to stop trolls.

We heard this old belief during a visit to the Gränsfors Axe Museum and manufacturing facility in Sweden 10 years ago. It is one of the many stories surrounding a tool that has held a practical and symbolic place in Scandinavian life for centuries.

Our own journey at The Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co. began with bringing Gränsfors axes to Canadians as one of the brand’s earliest Canadian retailers 15 years ago. Today, each axe still carries that rare combination of function, craftsmanship, and folklore.

We think Gransfors is half axe, half legend: shaped by generations of Swedish axe-making tradition, and made for performance year after year. Gränsfors axes have a well-earned reputation, and we can guarantee it will keep trolls away.
