The Maya Cycle trailer is an excellent product, and I am quite happy with it. I had purchased the Maya Cycle trailer this year for bicycle camping trips. So far have put ridden about 400 km on road surfaces. Before purchasing, I had read previous reviews and examined the product to verify or counter others concerns.
Fabrication:
I found the welds of the metal frame to be continuous and of good quality without spatter, lack of fusion, or burn through. The wheel is a standard small cycle wheel and adequate for the function. Others had commented on whether the front arm pivot bushing would hold up under use, however, EVERY bicycle component requires routine cleaning and lubrication. The trailer is no different. The carry bag is made of appropriately heavy material and is adequately sized for camping trips. The stitching appears without faults.
Assembly:
Assembly of the trailer was straight forward without any complications. However, installing the spindle that came with the trailer was challenging. I attribute this to the derailer configuration of my Cannondale CX. Attaching and disconnecting the trailer was cumbersome. I decided to purchase the upgraded spindle directly from the manufacturer. The upgraded spindle made a world of difference, and I whole heartedly recommend purchasing the upgraded spindle.
Function:
The trailer tracks perfectly behind the bicycle with no wobble or sway. I was originally concerned that my speed would be compromised however I have recorded no change in performance. Head winds contribute far more to reduced speed and increased effort than the trailer. If the carry bag is only moderately filled, it can rub against the wheel. A piece of cardboard attached with zip ties solves that problem.
The Maya Cycle trailer provides excellent value and fun.
