Short’s Solo Blast Lifts Metro Brewers to 1-0 Shutout Over Dartmouth Dry
It was a classic, old-school pitchers' duel on Friday night, where a single swing of the bat proved to be the difference. The Metro Brewers Senior squeezed past the Dartmouth Dry in a razor-thin 1-0 victory, riding a masterful performance on the mound and some early-game fireworks.
The Deciding Blow
The game’s lone run came right out of the gate. Stepping up in the first inning, Metro Brewers' 3-hole hitter Mike Short turned on a pitch and launched a majestic solo home run over the left-field wall. Little did the fans know, that first-inning blast would provide all the offense necessary to secure the win.
Dominance on the Mound
Metro Brewers' right-hander Ryan Abraham was nothing short of spectacular, putting on a clinic in efficiency. Abraham baffled Dartmouth hitters all night, tossing a complete-game gem over seven dominant innings. He surrendered just a single hit, issued one walk, and struck out four to lock down the shutout victory.
On the other side, Dartmouth’s Sean Hubley deserved a better fate. After giving up the early homer to Short, the righty settled in and matched Abraham punch-for-punch. Hubley ground through five innings of work, striking out seven batters while scattering four hits and a walk. Despite his stellar bounce-back performance, the lack of run support left him with a tough-luck loss.
Clean Defense and Quiet Bats
With both pitchers locked in, hits were a rare commodity. Jack Fader managed to break through for Dartmouth Dry, collecting his team's only hit of the night in a 1-for-3 performance. The Brewers' bats were slightly more active, totaling five hits on the day, with Alex Ouellette, Josh Tardif, Nolan Bennett, and Benoit Druet each joining Short in the hit column.
While the offenses were quiet, both defenses were absolutely immaculate. Neither team committed a single error over the course of the game. Dartmouth's Mike Naugle was a magnet for the ball, handling a game-high nine defensive chances flawlessly, while the Brewers' Josh Tardif anchored his squad's defense with five clean plays.
