Disclaimer - We want to acknowledge that our demonstrators are not adding the effect of the impact & psychological impact of being stabbed into our practice. It is purely a technical demonstration of the" possible " knife survival technique. We will do better next time.
The most deadly hits and attacks are when you do not see them coming. Attackers are like the predatory animal. They generally do not want to face you head-on. Attackers would mostly likely attack you from behind or 45 degrees from left and right rear.
So how do you deal with this type of attack? not much but try to survive. As one of my instructors said - there is no knife defense but only knife survival. Whenever a knife comes out, it is a bad day for everyone.
Here we want to combine - 1. animal instinct of fight " then " flight 2. aggressive turning maneuver 3. solid arm control.
1. There is no way we can walk around like a ninja, but fight or flight instinct should kick in when we get assaulted and attacked. Unfortunately, most people do not keep that instinct sharp anymore.
2.The aggressive turn - the turning is based on wrestling or even basketball. The purpose is to turn into your attacker quickly and get into a better advantage point. I do not know any fight was won by using one's back against the enemy. The tip of turning is to lean so much almost as you falling. This is not the moment to look pretty but aggressive.
3. solid arm control immediately. One of the systems I used to train in is Krav Maga. The textbook KM way is to control the attacker's arm with a grip and punch with the other hand to cause distraction. It is our opinion to disregard that part and focus on turning ( wrestling, MMA ) then immediate arm control with wrestling or sambo hold of the attacker
last but not least is the " foot position " now to achieve that, defenders need to know where to position their feet.
