US border rules for dogs change.
Starting August 1st, the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has new rules for those looking to bring dogs across the US border. The original rule changes, posted in May of this year, prompted concerns by the Government of Canada, hunters, and other recreational/professional dog owners over their restrictiveness, resulting in a recent loosening of some rules. Now, any dog brought into the USA from Canada must:
- Be at least 6 months old.
- Have an ISO-compliant or universally readable microchip.
- Appear healthy.
- Have a Canadian export document issued/signed by a Canadian licensed veterinarian, including vaccination and microchip information.
Endorsement by a CFIA veterinarian is no longer required.
