Judo In Summerside and the surrounding areas has been around since the early 1990’s With Sensei Brian Todd and the Fighting Spirit Judo Club. In 1993 Sensei Hurbert Marchbank & Sensei John Ross started the Summerside Kinsmens Judo Club, in 1995 When Sensei Marchbank left to start the Kensignton Judo Club. After a brief time at the Kinsmen center , the club moved to a different Location adopting
the name Summerisde Toshidokan Judo Club, which was later shortened to the Toshidokan Judo Club. The Club was reformed again later that year by Sensei Chris Townsend, Keeping the Toshidokan Name. The Club has had several members in current years medaling on the national and international stage
With Three members winning bronze medals in the 2013 & 2017 world Police & Fire Games, Several Members winning medals consistently at the open nationals and Elite National Championships, as well as the Canada Cup ,a bronze medal at the 2019 Canada winter Games, and many other Level A tournaments held across Canada
The TJC is home to many JudoPEI award Winners for Top Male & Female from u10 to Veteran , and Coach of The year Categories. As well the TJC is a multi-time winner of the JudoPEI’s president Cup for top club at the Provincial Championships . At the TJC we encourage each member to be the best that they can, from the recreational player to the competitive judoka, while adhering to the judo moral code of courtesy, courage, honesty, honour, modesty, respect, self-control and friendship.
