This past weekend Brian of Miramichi Sport Fishing and I got back to Woodstock for the Dennis Wilson Memorial tournament put on by the NBSFA. A few promising fish were seen on Thursday in the official practice day but in typical smallmouth fashion had disappeared come Saturday morning.

We found ourselves scrambling both Saturday and Sunday but ended up putting two decent bags together that landed us in 4th overall for the tournament.

Fishing was tough and the weights were close, leaving us just over a pound short of winning the event.

A big thanks goes out to Raes Trailer and Sports Centre and Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. For their support. On days when speed and positioning matter the Yamaha 250 SHO does an excellent job keeping us ahead of the pack.

Well we have had a busy summer chasing Smallmouth Bass. Most recently this past weekend we competed in the second stop of the New Brunswick Bass Tour.

Day one would see us draw dead last in take off and struggle most of the day to put quality fish in the boat. We ended day one in 37th with 11.97lbs. We launched on day two with the intention to climb the board and finally put it together. We ended day two with 16.75lbs of Smallmouth anchored by a 4.39lbs lunker which landed us in tenth place overall and secured the second day lunker prize.

With September quickly approaching we are starting to fill the schedule for the fall run of striped bass. If you are looking to get out please send us a message before the dates are full.

Well it’s that time of year again! The ice run has officially begun here on the Miramichi and we expect to be in full swing by opening day on April 15. Well that’s a wrap! The spring Striped Bass season is coming to an end here at River’s Edge Outfitters. I’d like to take the time to thank everyone who came out with us this spring and hope to see you all again soon. Here’s a favourite photo of mine; Andrew who travelled from Quebec landed this beauty last week on the fly rod with a custom fly he tied himself!

Now onto Smallmouth Bass for the summer. I am accepting bookings for the fall Striped Bass season now so reach out if you are interested in a fall trip. They only get bigger and better as the year goes on!

For those of you who are aren’t familiar with the Striped Bass fishery on the Miramichi, here is a short clip of the spawn that takes place right in our backyard.
