Milton Rink Breaks Through at Last to Capture Ontario Senior Mixed Championship
Milton Curling Club is celebrating a major achievement after its senior mixed team captured the Ontario provincial title in impressive fashion.
Led by skip Steve Oldford, the Milton rink entered this year’s Ontario Senior Mixed Championship as one of the top contenders, having reached the finals in each of the past two years. This time, they went one step further, delivering a composed and confident performance at the Burlington Golf and Country Club to secure the championship.
With strong chemistry and momentum on their side, Oldford and his team—Aleecia Brunberg, Pat Osborne, and Kimberly Roy—posted an outstanding 6–1 record in the round-robin stage, earning a direct spot in the final.
The championship match proved to be a tense and closely contested battle against Team Corbin from Brantford. After seven ends, the score was locked at 4–4. Holding the hammer in the निर्णing eighth end, Milton capitalized on a crucial opportunity, scoring two points after their opponents’ final shot narrowly clipped a guard.
Throughout the game, Milton demonstrated resilience and composure, including a key two-point sixth end that helped them stay in control during the tight showdown.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Brunberg, Osborne, and Roy, who had come close to winning in previous years but fell just short.
Reflecting on the triumph, Oldford expressed pride in his team’s achievement, emphasizing how meaningful it was to share the moment with such a dedicated group—especially alongside his spouse and teammate, Roy.
The competition featured a strong field, including returning finalists and a three-time provincial champion team, making the path to victory even more challenging.
As Oldford noted, consistency was key: every match carried equal importance on the road to the title.
