Hi, I'm Stef! 👋😊

I'm the mom behind Musquodoboit Valley Outfitters.

While Nolan handles the day-to-day operations as owner and operator, I help out behind the scenes helping with bookings, planning routes, answering questions, and dreaming up new ways for people to experience this incredible river. If you've sent us a message, there's a good chance you've been chatting with me!

The Musquodoboit River has been part of some of the biggest moments in my life. Nolan and I were married on the river, spent our honeymoon paddling and camping along its shores, and have shared countless adventures here ever since. Now we're making a whole new generation of river memories with our kiddos Maple Barbara and Roy Valentine 🩷🩷🩷

Whether it's your first time in a kayak or your fiftieth paddle down the Musquodoboit, I'm always excited to help people discover a place that means so much to our family and create memories of their own. 🛶🩷

One of our favourite ways to pair a paddle day 🛶⛰️

The Gibraltar Rock Loop trail overlooks the Musquodoboit River and makes a pretty perfect add-on adventure after a day on the water.

We hiked it this spring with three generations. Maple Barbara tackled it at 3 years old and my Momma-in-law completed it for her 65th birthday 🩷 🎉

The trail does have a steep, rocky section at the beginning, but it’s short-lived and the views at the top are more than worth it.

If you’re looking to turn your paddle into a full day outdoors, this is one of our favourite ways to do it.

Rainy Sundays have me daydreaming about warm river days, tiny lifejackets, sunshine on the water, and slow paddles with my babies ☀️🩷🛶

Counting down to more days like this ⏰

Wait...where does this go? 👀🛶

And just like that I'm off wandering down a magical little gully through the forest and back again to the main river.

When the river is high, the Musquodoboit transforms. Tiny tributaries wake up, flooded gullies appear, and suddenly there are all these hidden little waterways to explore 🧭

One of our favourite parts of spring paddling is following those quiet side channels just to see where they lead 🚣‍♀️🩷

Am I the only one who looks forward to the riverside snacking almost as much as the paddle? 🚣‍♀️🧺🍴😊

There’s just something about pulling up on shore after a few hours on the water, stretching your legs, and digging into good food with good company.

Let us take care of the snack prep so you can focus on relaxing, exploring, and enjoying your day on the river.

Our picnic add-ons are packed with our favourite paddle-day snacks: gouda, cheddar, havarti, cured salami, crackers, fresh baguette with butter, olives, seasonal fruit, nuts, and a few extra treats tucked in too. 🧀🍇🥖🧈🫒🍴

Perfect for sharing at a quiet riverside stop. Spread out on a picnic blanket, bask in the sun, and snack to your heart's content ☀️ 🩷☀️

Each picnic includes:
🧺 A fully packed charcuterie picnic board
🧺 Picnic blanket
🧺 Cooler with ice packs
🧺 Napkins and plates

Available as an add-on to your paddle this season 🌿

One of our favourite views on the Musquodoboit River, reimagined through the incredible talent of local artist Brent Mosher 🎨🛶

Brent transformed one of our river photos into this beautiful oil painting and earned a ribbon at the Halifax County Exhibition 🏅 We’re incredibly grateful to have this special piece of art inspired by the river we love so much 🙏🩷

We’d love to see any art inspired by your favourite rivers, lakes, or paddling adventures too. Drop a photo in the comments if you have one 🎨✨

And if you’d like to paddle beneath this bridge yourself, you can find it along our Claypools route:

These warm spring days make it easy to forget that the water is still very cold 🥶

Cold water shock can cause an involuntary gasp response when unexpectedly submerged, which can quickly become dangerous and lead to sudden drowning.

Wearing your PFD can be the difference between a funny story and a serious consequence.

Stay safe out there friends 🛟🩷

A PFD only works if you’re wearing it 🦺

This Safe Boating Awareness Week, Paddle Canada and the Canadian Safe Boating Council are reminding paddlers to make wearing a lifejacket or PFD part of every trip on the water.

Cold water, changing weather, unexpected swims — conditions can shift fast. Wearing your PFD gives you valuable time, buoyancy, and protection when it matters most.

Comfortable, reliable, and designed for paddling, today’s PFDs are made to move with you so there’s no reason to leave it behind.

Still kind of surreal seeing Musquodoboit Valley Outfitters featured by Saltscapes Magazine 🩷

As born and raised Nova Scotians, we grew up with Saltscapes. The magazines passed around cottages, kitchen tables, waiting rooms, and family homes all over Atlantic Canada. So this one feels especially meaningful to us.

Last season we had the privilege of sharing the Musquodoboit River with travel writer Darcy Rhyno for a paddle in Meaghers Grant paired with the Gibraltar Rock Loop hike on the Musquodoboit Trailway.

There’s something special about watching people experience this river for the first time. Slowing down, drifting through the river valley, and realizing places this wild and peaceful still exist so close to the city.

Huge thank you to Darcy Rhyno and Saltscapes for including us in this Eastern Shore adventure feature 🛶 We were so honoured to be included alongside so many incredible businesses and experiences from the Eastern Shore and Musquodoboit Valley.

Come visit us! We would love to share the beauty of the Musquodoboit River with you 🩷
