It sure has been a busy couple of days. After the tornado, there are many, many downed trees in the area. And the heat wave after the storm makes it too hot to safely work on projects outside. The weather should settle in the next couple if days, we hope, so we'll be able to post new videos soon.

Listen for the crack of the cedar splitting. Everything in balance.

Found the cedar we need yesterday. We cut a section of this damaged tree, and then we split it in half twice so we could bring the pieces back. They need to be split further and shaped, but it felt like a good day's work.

It rained all day yesterday, so we didn't go harvest the cedar we need for the canoe as originally planned. Look how much it rained!

Wouldn't it be nifty for whoever wins the canoe we are building to join next year's race? Maybe even place? That would be pretty neat, I think

Today we were learning about harvesting the birchbark for our canoe. This tree has provided some pieces, but not the main portion of the watercraft. In a couple of days it will be hotter. That's when we will harvest the big one. Stay tuned...
