WHAT A FIRST WEEK OF PLAYOFFS!
In Game 1 of the night, we saw Galatians push Exodus to the brink of elimination but the team in orange clawed back with a 10 point swing to win it in the dying minutes.
Game 2 featured one of the best individual shooting starts in SMB history as Kero Naguib started the game by scoring his teams first 17 points! He slowed down after that but his team did not as Psalms stormed their way into the semi finals.
Our game of the night was definately game 3. Genesis and Wisdom were neck and neck all that that it took not one, but TWO OVERTIMES to determine a winner! Antwan Benyamin capped off a huge night for with team by scoring the final second double overtime buzzer beating layup! The team will look to carry their late game heroics into their semi final game.
The last game of the night was a tale of two halves. The first half saw a back and forth affair that ended with the number 8 seed Maccabees up 2 on top seeded Numbers. It wsa the second half which showed us why Numbers is the team to beat as they outscored their opponents 38-17 to blow out the game. Andrew Tadros came to life in the second half scoring 14 points including 4 3-pointers!
This leads us to tonight's semi finals! Our first game features Exodus vs Genesis and the night will be capped off by Numbers vs Pslams.
The first matchup features teams who had a hot start to the season but slowed down in their recent games had the 2 worst records of 2017. They picked it up when it mattered most both winning their playoff match in theatrical fashion and thei semi final is sure to be a good one! For Exodus, ball movement will be key for the team. Their offense succeeds the most when every player is getting a touch and picks are being set. It would be good for them to get John Nagiub going as the games where he is hot the team really benefits. On the defensive end, they will look to contain the impact that Antwan Benyamin will have.
Genesis will look to limit the number of quality shots John Nagiub gets while also trying to limit the number of offensive rebounds. On the offensive end, they will look to get Antwan the ball and let him create for himself and his team. Ball protection will be very important as John Gad will look to get many steals leading to easy points.
The second matchup has two of the hotest teams going head to head. They are two of the best ball moving teams with some of the best assist men also.
For Numbers, they will look to push the break and space the floor with their many shooters. Putting the ball in Matthew Salib's hand would be a good idea as he is the team's best assist man and offense initiator. We can count on bug man Andrew Tadrouss to have a solid game for the team but for numbers to make it to the finals they will need a solid performance from Daniel Meikhail and Andrew Tadros. The defensive end had always been a forte for this team and they will continue to look to rattle their opponents with their length and athleticism.
Psalms will look to let Peter Mikhail control the offense as he has been doing a great job breaking down defenses and moving the ball at the right times. It will be important to get Kero going early with quality looks. The more he can space the floor the easier it will be for their bigs to attack the rim. Speaking of bigs, they will look to bombard the boards and put back led by Shaheer Tadros who has had a few monster games this season!
Both games are sure to be great! Come out, watch and who knows, maybe we'll have another buzzer be**er! Tip off is 8:30pm!
