Cape Mabou Trail Club

Cape Mabou Trail Club May 2013 - just walked Fair Allistrar's Trail, bit muddy at bottom with several
windfalls on way to look off and a bit beyond look off.

However, trail is certainly
walkable and the visibility is great now with leaves not out fully yet. MacPhee and Beaton Trails in good shape.

Folks are anxious to get out on the trails. As you likely know we have had a lot of snow and a cool spring so there's definitely still some snow on sections of the trails. However, for the most part, the trails are very ok for hiking. The MacEachen trail from the top of Cape Mabou near the windmill should be avoided, it probably has lots of the white stuff.
Folks should know that no windfalls have been cut yet. Also, the road past the Mabou Mines Trailhead is rough with snow in places.
Overall, it's fun hiking. Pictures taken April 13 and 14.

A beautiful day for a hike. A nice two hour or less hiking loop going up Edge of the Valley trail which becomes MacArthur trail , crossing over to MacEachen trail going right, then back to the car on the Bear Trap trail. All trails are in good shape but a bit wet in places on the Bear Trap.

Happy Easter and happy hiking. There are lots of folks out on the trails already which is great to see. There is still some snow here and there and actually quite a lot at the trailhead at Cape Mabou. The ocean colors are interesting and with no leaves in the trees the views are wonderful.

You can barely see the trail club sign but it's there. We didn't walk the trail but the walk up to the trailhead at Cape Mabou was magical. Jan. 18, 2025. ( Road was plowed as far as the windmill).

The weather has been a bit dreary lately but it's a great time to get in a few hikes between rain showers.
We get hikers from all over the place as shown on one of our trail registers from mid October.

David Rumsey is shown here in one of his favorite places, MacKinnon's Brook. David took the beautiful scene pictured here. David Rumsey, along with his wife Abby, are major supporters of the Cape Mabou Trail Club, the group that oversees these trails. They not only make a yearly significant financial contribution but they are also responsible for having much of the property on which the trails sit protected under The Nova Scotia Nature Trust. We are grateful for his commitment to the protection of this wonderful area Thank you very very much.
