Focus on Traditional Dances

In June we will focus on Armenian dances, especially the manifestations of the heartbeat of the great Mother present in the Govand.

Armenia, before its conversion to Christianity in the 4th century CE, was deeply connected to the worship of the goddess Anahit. Anahit was a revered deity in Armenian paganism, representing fertility, healing, wisdom, and water. She was often seen as the mother-goddess and was a significant figure in Armenian mythology and religious practices.

Going to the Source of Sacred Circle Dance: Focus on Roma Dances- Online dance sessions

Come join this supportive, virtual learning environment on Zoom to explore dance steps and body movements as we embrace the vibrant energy of Roma dances.
In March, I will just be returning from a level 2 Roma dance workshop with Laura Shannon who was the first circle dance teacher to work intensively (since 1987) with the dances of the Roma and to teach them in the worldwide Sacred Dance network. Learning and dancing with different teachers in the past 2 years and especially studying with Laura, I’ve learned to have a deep respect for the wisdom and healing power of these dances.

Our dancing will culminate in a dance gathering on Tuesday, April 8 - International Romani Day - to honour and celebrate the Romani people https://nationaltoday.com/international-romani-day.

Dance Program? To prepare for International Romani Day on April 8, I will review dances we learned in January and add new ones.

Going to the Source of Sacred Circle Dance: Focus on Roma Dances
We will begin our journey in the company of a most ancient family of traditional dances and then become familiar with new (old) Roma dances I have learned with different teachers in Europe.
Each of the 3 sessions will be self-contained. There will be some repetition of dances between each session and there will be different dances at every session.
Beginners are welcome. Dances will range from easy to more challenging speeds and rhythms.
For dance teachers, and anyone interested in a deeper exploration of the dance, I will dedicate 15 minutes of each session to my thoughts about a concept I have learned with different teachers:
Week 1: The Tree of Life pattern (Laura Shannon)
Week 2: The foot and energy flow
Week 3: Review
Also, if you wish to review a traditional dance taught in a session, please send your request at least 24 hours before the next session.

What have I been up to in 2024?
I completed a second training in Women’s Ritual Dances with Laura Shannon and obtained my International Dance Council (CID) certification in traditional dances https://cid-world.org/fr/home-2/. I attended a Roma dance festival in Germany and I participated in an intensive dance deepening in Crete for women who have completed Laura’s training.
A Few Words About Diane Schreiner
I have been studying circle dance since 2014 with internationally renowned circle dance teachers. I began my exploration of circle dance with June Watts (http://www.junewatts.com) and Bobbi Bailin. (https://www.bobbibailin.net).
In 2019, I completed two intensive trainings with circle dance masters. Friedel Kloke (https://sacreddance.de/sacreddance.html) who connects dance to sacred geometry and Laura Shannon (https://laurashannon.net) who specializes in traditional women’s ritual dance from Greece, the Balkans and Armenia.
To date, I continue my studies in circle dance and frame drum with an emphasis on traditional women’s dance and ancient rhythms. I regularly participate in women’s ritual dance seminars in Greece and Germany.
