For the 27th year in a row Jane Adams Ritcey was present on the closing day of our Junior program to present the Mildred Adams trophy, in memory of her mother, and the keeper trophies she provides each year. Her mother was a founding member of the club and the selection is based on the qualities she exemplified. The winners this year were Malloy Knowles and Micah Veinotte-Dorey. Thursday, September 25th, is the last South Shore Team Tennis event which we are hosting. The date first picked was Wednesday, the 24th, however, that is the closing ceremony for the 55+ games so will likely involve some members of the South Shore clubs.

I am looking for a mixed, ladies and mens doubles teams to play for Lunenburg which involves three ladies and three men. I do have one lady who has offered to play so need two more. Really hoping for some volunteers. This event begins with warm up at 6 p.m., play beginning at 6:30. You would play three short 4 set matches against the other three clubs. With the lights the evening event won’t be a problem.

Also, just a reminder that our club will be hosting the 55+ tennis games which will be held on September 22 and 23rd. The courts will not be available for play as the event will run from 10 a.m. until 5 or 6 each day.

Hoping to hear from a few people interested in playing the last Team tennis event on September 25th.

Thank you.

Carolyn

Thanks to Graham for organizing the men's doubles tournament. Six teams were balanced for equal play and good competition. Lots of exciting rallies and some great games! A round robin of 4 games was played followed by a regular six game set play-off for placement. The winners were George Crookshank and Matt Veinotte with second place going to Dave McFarland and Kevin Forward. Pictures of the group and winners are attached.

This ends the tennis events so the courts should be available for play at anytime. The early morning groups are now starting a little later so until approximately 10 o’clock you may find full courts. I should mention one event and that is the Provincial 55 + games that are being held on the South Shore. I don’t have any final details but Lunenburg was one venue that was asked to host the tennis which is to happen from September 21 - 23. Will give you more information later in the month.

Congratulations to our Davis Cup team who played in Bridgewater today on a very hot, humid day and were victorious winning 67 games to Bridgewater’s 59. This clinched the Davis Cup trophy as our team that was chosen to play Bridgewater here in Lunenburg in July also won. Congratulations to all those who participated and were part of the victory!

Hello Everyone:

1. The Junior program is winding down with the last day of lessons Friday, August 22nd. The Junior Club championship tournaments start today and, because lessons don’t end until 1:45 the tournaments won’t begin until 2 or later. Depending on entries these could run until possibly 4 so on some of these afternoons for the next two weeks there may not be a court available before 4.

2. The adult beginners lessons are complete so Monday nights are now available for play. The advance beginner group lessons end on Thursday.

3. Graham is looking for entries into the mens doubles tournament on August 30th. These are individual entries and he matches teams for equality so a fun, competitive tournament for everyone. If you are interested email Graham at [email protected]

4. Saturday was a fun morning for our ladies doubles tournament with 7 teams entered. A round robin was held with first place going to the undefeated team of Sandra Joudrey and Kelly Greenlaw, two teams tied for second but counting up winning games Jamie Snell and Leanne Theriault won second place and third went to Lori Keelty and Cathy Kelly. Group picture and the winners in previous post.
