Spring has sprung and we are edging into summer. The ducks are on nests, seeing Canada goose goslings popping up, and the snows, specks and cranes are over the trees heading to the tundra.

I have 3 spots left for this fall:

Early Cranes
September 13/14 for 4-8 hunters

Regular Season
September 23-25 up to 8
October 18-20 up to 8

So nice seeing the water return and the sloughs alive with ducks! The small Canadas have pushed hard north, the big honkers are on nests, the snows and specks are coming through and heard the first cranes of 2025 this morning!

I've got 1 remaining date for early cranes, September 13/14 for 4-8 hunters.

Brined and ready for the smoke! December mallards can't be beat.

Per gallon of water
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Old Bay
- 1 tbsp ground Rosemary
- 1 Bay Leaf
- ¾ cup salt (coarse or kosher, NOT table)

For a smokier flavor:
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- ½ tbsp liquid smoke

Dissolve salt in warm water then add the rest of the ingredients.

Use a big ziplock or vacuum sealed bag. Ducks/chickens- 12 hours. Geese/turkeys- 24-36 hours.
