He was ‘doing everything right’ but his training wasn’t changing his game and here’s what turned the tide.
I love working with goalies like him. He was driven to be the best he could be AND he was putting in the work consistently week in and week out.
But when we had our first Zoom call and he explained his DIY routine that included ‘everything he needed as a goalie’ I saw the two of the three most common issues that derail a goalies progress from one season to the next.
1. He thought more exercises = Better training, so he wouldn’t miss anything
2. Effort applied to a random program progression
(the 3rd one is not training consistently)
When we decided to work together the first thing we did was take his discipline and channel it into only working on the things that would build the adaptations that he needs right now, because that set him up to progress from one training phase to the next.
His program does not look like a little bit of everything, it looks like specific workouts for specific adaptations and only 35-days into his off-season he’s already frustrating the shooters at his prospect skates.
If you feel like you’re doing everything right and not seeing dramatic improvements on the ice, DM me PLAN and stop guessing. Send that as a DM not a comment please.
