LEAP CCH (Leaders in Exercise and Athletics Program) Wendy Glover
Athlete Development The students Co Op, gain volunteer hours and job shadow in many areas related to athletics and exercise.

The Leaders in Exercise and Athletics Program allows senior students (upon acceptance) at Catholic Central High School to gain industry certifications and insight into athletics and exercise. The students are certified in: National Coaching Certification Program, CFES Fitness Knowledge and Weight Trainer, First Aid and CPR, at no cost to them. Some of the partners of LEAP are: UWO Fowler Kennedy S

ports Medicine Clinic, PEAC School for Athletes, Combine 360 London, TPH Hockey, UWO strength and conditioning coach Jeff Watson, the YMCA of London, the City of London Parks and Recreation Department, UWO Physiotherapy professor Dave Humphreys, and the LDCSB Recreation Department. A valuable partner is the feeder elementary schools to Catholic Central as this is where the students practice leading others in various sports, fitness circuits, and games. The ideal "value" to gain from graduating from this program is how to be an effective leader and communicator. Students are encouraged to pursue any post-secondary pathway of their choice upon graduation. LEAP is simply a fantastic way to finish off the last two years of high school if you are an athlete that wants to learn more about training, leading effectively, teamwork, communication, and the specific attributes needed to play your sport at the next level.

Pretty proud of Riley Coome. He came into LEAP with a lot of potential as a hockey player. He found out what he could do to improve from AA and high school to Jr B... and then spent his time every day doing the work and improving.
He is one of the lucky ones where his hard work and athleticism helped him improve and he kept adjusting to higher levels of performance demands. Some athletes work hard also, but are unlucky in genes, opportunity, and adjusting to the demands of a higher level. Such is life, kids. We are watching and supporting you, Riley!!

Two years ago, if you asked Riley Coome where he thought he would be now, his answer would not have had anything to do with the London Knights. But, that has changed.

Great article! Local woman working in the NFL.
A few key takeaways:
She volunteered during university for Laurier Football.
She established a strong work ethic, impressed the adults she met.
Asked to learn more from adults she met.
Did NOT get into a Master's (at first) so spent a year interning for FREE to build even more networks.
Her networks worked hard to help her make connections.
Networks got her EVERY position before the NFL, and she proved them right.
Seemingly unrelated undergrad degree shows she found passion through volunteering.

Don't burn bridges! Every situation is an opportunity to impress, learn, and network.

First field trip was amazing to the Canadian Country Music Awards on Friday! Amy Regan is the best!
We had a backstage pass, tour and helped the most talented, kind, and humble Canadian musicians prepare for the show by being involved in their rehearsals.
On Sunday, lucky LEAP students were at the show and up and personal beside the stage.
Event planning training at its finest!
On Friday, we were lucky enough to interview producers of:
The Amazing Race Canada
Hockey Wives
Tragically Hip (final tour)
The World Cup of Hockey
Heritage Classic

LEAP Camp 2016
Some LEAP counselors: "I don't think I ever want to be an elementary teacher."
Me: "It's not always this busy with a field trip and Water Play Day in one day."
Counselors: "but there's like 6 of us for 10 kids and a teacher is alone with them all. They DON'T like to listen."
Me : hahahahaha

If you believe in any type of education reform or cultural reform of something you care about (e.g. youth sports) here are a few examples of how people in another area if the world approaches innovation (in education). It's time leaders think more "out of the box" and less status quo. We are not educating "mini-me's," and thus need to approach the future differently.

It will only happen if people have less ignorant opinions and more open minds.

Lisa Nielsen found school boring + irrelevant. That ticked her off. She writes this blog to share ideas to help change that for others.

Teenagers are complex. Pls don't write this boy off. He would not likely make decisions that enabled him to be late if he were 23 and realized the depth of his opportunity.
He may need some more time to develop his character and it may or may not evolve into where a NHL team needs him to be. The real question is how long should the team wait while other hopeful players would clearly step up?
