How to Exercise the Different Parts of Your Back

Your back isn’t one muscle—it’s a system that needs variety to stay strong, supported, and balanced.

Here’s how to train it well:

Upper back (posture + alignment)
Reverse flys, band pull-aparts
→ Helps open the chest and improve posture

Mid-back (strength + control)
Rows, deadlifts, superman holds
→ Supports everyday movement and spinal stability

Lower back (support + endurance)
Cobra, bird dog, bridges
→ Builds resilience and protects the spine

Mobility (often overlooked)
Cat-cow, twists, thoracic rotations
→ Keeps the spine mobile and pain-free

Reminder: A strong back is about balance—strength, control, and mobility working together.

Stand tall with your feet grounded evenly, gently engage your core, and allow your shoulders to soften away from your ears. Keep your spine long, your chest open, and your head balanced over your body rather than leaning forward.

Think of posture as support, not stiffness — your body should feel strong, but still able to move and breathe with ease.
