Happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone! We hope the return of the school year went smoothly for everyone with the onset of Fall.
We here at The Art of Taekwondo and Kungfu are getting ready for the beginning of our class schedule on November 1st, with a few changes coming this year!
Our Taekwondo classes will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Kungfu and weapons classes on Wednesdays. Friday classes will be discontinued until we begin preparing for tournament season.
We will be temporarily removing the Beginner class, all previous Beginner students will be moved into the Intermediate class (6PM to 7PM). The Adult class (7PM to 8PM) and Advanced class (8PM to 8:30PM on Tuesdays only) will remain the same.
Please reach out to Eliza to confirm that your students will be returning in November as there will be some changes to what classes some students will be participating in.
We are maintaining space for all returning students from last year and will not be accepting new students until we know if there are any available spots.
We look forward to welcoming back all the smiling faces and introducing you all to the new member of the Art of Taekwondo and Kungfu family!

Rumours has it *cue Adele song* baby is here….And the rumour is TRUE! 💙

We are so excited to finally introduce our newest little addition — Fenrys Jan Haelen van Assem! 🥹💙

Fenrys was born on August 20th, weighing 6 lb 9 oz. Our little Leo, our little sun, and our absolute dream. ☀️🦁

We are so incredibly happy he is here, and we cannot wait for all of you to meet him when we return in November!

And speaking of November…

🥋 WE ARE BACK NOVEMBER 3RD! 🥋

We’ll have a full update coming at the end of this month with everything you need to know for our return!

A few quick things for now:
✨ Class schedules will run the same as last season
✨ No changes to class days or times
✨ We’ll share all the details in our upcoming November update!

We hope everyone has had an amazing summer, and a great back to school start! We’ll see you in 6 weeks!

Well… I know this is a little late (which seems to be pretty on brand for Eliza lately 🤣), but we wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of our students and their families for another incredible year!

What a season it’s been! We celebrated 5 new black belts, kicked names and took butt at competitions, made amazing memories, and watched our students grow so much both on and off the mats. We couldn’t be prouder of every single one of you.

To all of our students families -thank you for your endless support. We truly appreciate the commitment it takes to get your kids to class 2–4 times a week while balancing work, school, sports, and everything else life throws your way. Your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed, and we’re so grateful you’ve chosen to be part of our club.

We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone back in November, and we can’t wait for you all to meet our baby boy! 💙

And finally, a very special thank you to Mr. V. From February onward, you handled classes while also managing Miss Ma -who is very hard to manage. You have been my rock through these last six months, and I truly couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for everything you do—for our students, our club, and our little family. I love you more than words can say. ❤️

Have an amazing summer, everyone! We’ll see you all in November, refreshed, ready to train, and excited for another fantastic season! 🥋☀️

🎉 Hi y’all! It’s our LAST week of classes, and here’s what you need to know! 😊

🚫 No classes this Tuesday due to testing.

🥋 Testing Information:
• Test Fee: $45
• Belt: $25
• Stripes: FREE

Please remember to bring a water bottle and wear a clean uniform for testing.

📅 Pre-Registration for November
This is also the last week to pre-register for November! At this time, pre-registration is open to returning students only.

To guarantee your child’s spot and avoid being placed on the waitlist, all that’s needed is a $90 deposit for November. Your spot will be held, and no additional November fees will be due (unless your child is enrolled in more than one class).

We truly hope to see all of our students return in the fall—and we can’t wait for everyone to meet our baby boy! 💙

🎊 Our final class of the season is Thursday, and we’re planning a fun-filled night to celebrate another amazing year together. We’re looking forward to spending one more evening with all of our awesome students and making some great memories!

What a great weekend at the Red Deer Competition on May 30th!

Our team put in months of hard work, dedication, and training, and it showed. We are proud to announce that our students brought home 17 medals! 🎉🥋

A very special congratulations goes out to Tristan Conroy for earning the title of Junior Black Belt Grand Champion! What an outstanding achievement. We are incredibly proud of your hard work, determination, and performance. Well deserved, Tristan! 👏🏆

To all of our competitors, congratulations on your success and for representing our club with such great sportsmanship and effort. The commitment you’ve shown over the last couple of months leading up to this competition has been inspiring, and every one of you should be proud of what you accomplished.

Thank you to our families, and supporters who helped make this possible. We couldn’t be prouder of our team!

🥋 June Newsletter 🥋

Welcome to Our Final Month of the Season!

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of another fantastic year! Thank you to all of our students and families for your hard work, dedication, and support throughout the season. Here’s everything you need to know as we wrap things up for the summer.

💰 June Fees

June fees are now due. If you have not yet submitted your fees, please do so this week.

📅 Class Schedule Changes

Now that tournament season has come to an end, we’re giving our students a well-deserved break from the extra training sessions.

There will be no:
• Tuesday 8:00pm–8:30pm classes
• Friday classes

We will continue with our regular class schedule through the remainder of June.

🍂 Fall Pre-Registration Now Open

Beginning this month, we will be accepting pre-registrations for returning students for our Fall 2026 season.

As many of you know, we are excitedly awaiting the arrival of baby boy! Because of this, we are planning to return to classes in November 2026.

To reserve your spot for November:
• A $90 deposit will be required.
• This deposit will be applied to your November fees, meaning November tuition will already be paid.

At this time, pre-registration is available for returning students only. We appreciate everyone’s understanding regarding our later fall start and hope to welcome all of our students back in November!

🥋 Beginner Class Update

There will be no Beginner Classes until January 2027.

All current beginner students will move into the Intermediate Class when classes resume in November.

✅ June Testing

Our final testing of the season will take place on:

June 23rd

Students who are ready to test will be notified.

🎉 Last Class of the Season

Our final class before summer break will be:

June 25th

Thank you for an incredible season filled with growth, hard work, tournaments, testing, friendships, and achievements. We are so proud of everything our students have accomplished this year and can’t wait to see everyone again in November!

We have one last competition coming up on May 30th in Red Deer!
Eliza will be sending out the registration link to parents—please note that registration payment will be completed online via credit card.

👕 Final Club Apparel Order
We’ll be placing one last order for club t-shirts and sweaters this year!
With the warmer weather, we’ve had a few requests for shirts, so this is your chance to grab one.

Testing Night – Thursday, April 23rd 🥋

We have belt testing this Thursday at 6:00pm!

If your student’s name is not on the testing list below, they will not have class this Thursday.

Students and parents are encouraged to arrive 15–20 minutes early to stretch, practice, and warm up before testing begins.

What you need:
• Clean, full uniform
• Water
• Testing fees (submitted before testing)
