I've been reflecting on life and death on the farm.
It's funny how much I loved the idea of having all these animals but found some sort of excuse to not get them.
"I'll be too tied down"
"My heart couldn't handle it"
"I'll get too attached"
And really, I think I was trying to protect myself from the hard parts. Especially loss.
Farrowing our first ever litter this spring was filled with so much excitement.
The next morning we woke up and I found one had passed away.
I think these were the parts I was avoiding. They suck. Like REALLY suck.
But I've come to realize, I will experience these sad days if it means I get to have the great days too.
We went from seven beautiful little babies to six.
We buried it and placed a heart shaped rock over it.
As we buried it, Haedyn wanted us each to say some words.
One thing that was consistent, "I am so glad we got to know you. Even if you're time with us was short. Thank you for being a part of our farm."
And maybe.. one day. It'll come back to us in another life 🖤
