On Wednesday, Aug. 19th, Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson officially started his Major League career with the San Francisco Giants.

With family and friends in attendance, the former Okotoks Dawgs pitcher recorded two shutout innings, allowing just one hit with no walks or strikeouts.

The Giants went on to win the game 1-0.

The first game of the WCBL final at Gulls Field was a 4-1 win for the Saskatoon Berries and featured phenomenal performances on the bump from starting pitcher Zachary Landerville, as well as relievers Brooks Jones and Wesley Shackleford of the Berries.

Game Two is scheduled for 7:05 Sunday.

Game day!
The WCBL Championship Series gets underway in Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Saturday night.
The Sylvan Lake Gulls host the Saskatoon Berries Baseball in Game one of the best-of-three series. Saskatoon will host Game two on Sunday night and Game three, if necessary, will be back in Sylvan Lake on Monday night. Watch it all on FloCollege | Baseball

A new champion will be crowned in 2026! The Harry Hallis Trophy will be handed out by Monday, it's WCBL Gameday, Championship edition! The Saskatoon Berries Baseball out of the Insightrix East Division take on the Sylvan Lake Gulls out of the Play Alberta West Division!

Game 1 - Saturday, Gulls Field, 7:05pm
Game 2 - Sunday, Nex Gen Patch at Cairns Field, 7pm
Game 3 (if necessary) - Monday, Gulls Field, 7:05pm

When the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy is lifted at the conclusion of the 2026 WCBL Championship Series, one team will be raising it for the first time in franchise history.

The Saskatoon Berries Baseball Club advanced after eliminating the top-seeded Moose Jaw Miller Express in the best-of-three East Division Final.

The Sylvan Lake Gulls swept their rivals, Okotoks Dawgs Baseball for a second straight summer in the West Division Final.

Now, the Berries and the Gulls will meet in the 2026 Championship, starting Saturday.
