Souhaitez-moi Happy trail! On July 25th I will head to the United States for a 8 day hike on the last section of the Appalachian trail. I will hike the most isolated part of Maine known under the name of The Hundred-Mile Wilderness. This section begins northeast of the city of Monson and ends about 100 miles (161km) away to Abol Bridge in Baxter State Park. I will leave home early on July 25th and drive for approximately 7 hours to Katahdin Air seaplane runway. I'll leave my car near Abol Bridge (Place of arrival of my hike) and at 2:00 PM, the Air Katahdin team will take me to the small town of Monson. A short 30-minute flight that will allows me to admire the 100 miles that I’m going to walk in the next following 8 days. The next morning, I shall start this long walk quietly on this historic trail. The difficulty of this adventure lies mainly in the fact that I am alone and in complete autonomy. That is to say, with 10 days of food, my hammock and the bulk of its kind for a hike. The weight of the backpack should be around 45 pounds, slowing down my pace and adding some stress to my quadriceps. Also, wet bulb temperature, mosquitoes, large probability of rain and the difficult topography certainly add some spice to the adventure. At each start and end of the day, I will send satellite message to confirm that all is well. With these messages, you will see my progress on the ground. Wish me Happy trail!
