Lower Island Soccer Association Soccer is the most popular sport in the world being played in over 200 countries by more than 242,000,000 registered players.

The Lower Island Soccer Association provides administrative services to ten youth soccer clubs on Vancouver Island and administers the elite teams competing in inter-district competition against the province's other top soccer teams. Within the Lower Island well over 17,000 girls, boys, men and women play in a variety of soccer leagues. Whether played at the grass roots level or by those aspiring

to a world-class status, soccer has something for everyone. The Lower Island Soccer Association (LISA) administers youth programs (players aged 18 and under) on behalf of the ten Club Associations within the Lower Island.

LISA and Bays United are partnering to host all four on-field Grassroots Coach Education courses June 6thā€“7th 2026 at Oak Bay High School Turf.

Whether youā€™re just getting started or already coaching, these sessions are designed to give you practical tools you can take straight onto the field.

Important Reminder for Graduating Members šŸŽ“

LISA Scholarship Applications are due April 30th, 2026!

Graduating players are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to receive one of eight $1,000 scholarships.

These scholarships recognize student-athletes who have shown dedication, leadership, and commitment both on and off the field.

Be sure to submit your application before the deadline.

Grassroots soccer is being designed differently now. On purpose.

At this stage of development, the focus is not on standings, rankings, or results. Instead, itā€™s about creating the right environment for players to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation in the game.

Thatā€™s why youā€™ll see:
āœ”ļøSmaller-sided games (more touches and involvement)
āœ”ļøEqual playing time (more opportunities to develop)
āœ”ļøNo standings (less pressure, more confidence)
āœ”ļøEncouragement to try, make mistakes, and learn

These standards are put in place to support long-term player development, not short-term results. Players are given the space to make decisions, be creative, and develop a genuine understanding of the game.

Just as importantly, this environment helps players build confidence, resilience, and a love for the game.āš½

It may look different from what many of us experienced growing up but there is a clear purpose behind it.

LISA Referee Development Officer Al Moir was recently invited to participate in a Living Library / Career Fair event at St. Patrickā€™s Elementary School.

Al spoke with groups of students about his role with LISA, his experiences as a referee, and the opportunities officiating can offer. Topics included:

ā€¢ Refereeing as a great first job
ā€¢ How he first became involved in refereeing
ā€¢ How to register for a referee course
ā€¢ The benefits and challenges referees experience
ā€¢ The Green Armband initiative
ā€¢ Referee support, development, and life skills gained through officiating

Al hopes the students were inspired to be the best they can be in whatever path they choose, and perhaps consider refereeing as their first job, just like many of the FIFA referees weā€™ll see at this summerā€™s World Cup once did.

We look forward to seeing some of these students at an upcoming referee course!

Soccer is taking over the BC Legislature lawn!

Victoria will host a Canada Celebrates FIFA World Cup 2026ā„¢ Test Event on March 31st, bringing a free, family-friendly day of soccer to the Inner Harbour.

Expect interactive soccer activities, music, food trucks, fan experiences, and international matches on the big screen ā€” including Canada vs Tunisia at 4:30 PM.

The Lower Island Soccer Association and its member clubs will be implementing the new Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards across all programming for U13 and younger beginning in the 2026ā€“2027 season.

These national standards are designed to create the best possible environment for young players by prioritizing skill development, enjoyment, and long-term participation. The changes ensure every player has meaningful opportunities to develop, build confidence, and experience the game in a positive and supportive setting. By placing development ahead of results, we are strengthening the foundation for players at every level of the sport.

Lower Island Soccer is committed to supporting and educating players, coaches, and clubs throughout this transition to ensure a smooth and successful implementation.

LISA is excited to announce that we will be hosting on field training workshops for both Soccer for Life & Learn to Train coaching certifications on January 4th at Layritz Park- 4454 Markham Street, Victoria BC.

This is a great opportunity for new and returning coaches! Courses are open to all LISA members.

Learn to Train ā€“ 8:30am ā€“ 12:30pm (Code - Learn2Train)

Soccer for Life ā€“ 1:00pm ā€“ 5:00pm (Code ā€“ Soccer4Life)
