Thank you once again to everyone who came out to learn and celebrate geocaching! Our final donation has been made to the SPCA and I cannot thank you enough for helping the animals. If you are interested in adopting a furry geocaching companion, I highly recommend checking out the shelter. Max, the geo pup and Kona, the caching kitty are both SPCA alumni and excellent examples of the love waiting to be adopted at a shelter near you!

Good morning everyone! I want to thank you again for your patience while we navigated through these unforeseen challenges. I have tallied up our donation total and I am happy to announce that despite having to cut the day short, we were still able to raise $207.50 for the SPCA!! I will take in the cash portion of the donation early next week and then post a picture of the receipt here as proof of donation.
Now on to the draw!! Get those ticket stubs out as there are a number of prizes that I need to see the other half of the ticket in order to award them!! Anyone who purchased their tickets after the evacuation, I have your names already. Please contact me to make arrangements to get you your prizes!

Just a quick reminder that Mountain Warehouse in Orchard Park Mall, Kelowna will be hosting a VIP night for attendees of the event and any other geocachers in the area interested in coming. They will have staff on hand to speak about outdoor gear and are offering 20% off your purchases made between 5 pm and 9 pm tonight! Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it tonight as we are dealing with our fire damage today, but the store manager, Naomi will take care of you. Just let her know you are with the geocaching group.

It's event day tomorrow!! If you are planning to attend with your own personal GPS unit, please bring your transfer cords with you. This helps us speed up the process of loading GPS units and also helps us avoid the problem of not having the right cord! We also highly recommend bringing sunscreen to reapply during the day and bug spray for the less urban caches. Below is a reminder of our timeline of events. I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Day of Event Schedule

12:00 Noon: Event Registration opens at Jack Seaton Park (1950 Camp Rd, Lake Country). Free tote bags of goodies will be handed out to the first 100 people to register. Limit 2 per family. GPX files will be loaded onto attendees GPS units or emailed to their smartphones to be used with a geocaching app (such as c:geo). Sign up sheets will also be available to those new to the sport who would like a hands on learning experience tour. Raffle tickets will be available to purchase for $1 per ticket at this time and throughout the day until 6:45 pm. You must be 19 years or older to purchase raffle tickets. 100% of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Kelowna SPCA.

12:30 pm: The Happy Pineapple shave ice truck will be joining us, selling delicious shave ice to help you cool down.

1:15 pm: Group photo time! Join us for a group photo before heading out for a day of geocaching.

1:30 pm: Geocaching time! We will take the first group of new geocachers out for a hands on learning tour around Jack Seaton Park and to find their first caches. Additional groups will be escorted around the park as needed. Experienced geocachers are welcome to depart and find any of the new geocaches being released for this event.

4:00 pm: Time to fire up the BBQ! Back at Jack Seaton Park, we will be hosting a BBQ by donation from 4 pm to 7 pm, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Kelowna SPCA. You will have your choice of a hamburger or hot dog, a bag of chips and a pop or bottle of water. The suggested donation is $5 per person. We will also have veggie burgers for our vegetarian attendees available by request.

5:00 pm: Mountain Warehouse will be joining us from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm* to visit with attendees and talk about outdoor adventure gear. (*Time subject to change. Any changes will be announced on our page.)

6:45 pm: Last call for raffle ticket sales!

7:00 pm: Raffle draw, a thank you to our sponsors and final wrap up of the day. Raffle draw winners must be in attendance to claim their prize, or they must give their signed ticket, including address and phone number, to a friend to accept their winnings on their behalf, as per BC Gaming Licence Day of Raffle rules.

We are just 2 days away from the event!! Summer has arrived in the Okanagan, and I am happy to announce that The Happy Pineapple Hawaiian Shave Ice Company will be joining us with their shave ice truck! They will be set up with us at the park to sell their delicious shave ice during the event to help attendees cool down. :)

We are just 3 days away from this event! Just a quick reminder, we are collecting new and gently used shoes of ANY kind for Shoe Bank Canada. So many of us have a pair of shoes that are just collecting dust, that pair that you just don't reach for. Bring them with you to our event at Jack Seaton Park this Saturday to support this excellent cause and help someone in need!

We are just over a week away from event day!! Today, I'd like to thank Backroad Mapbooks for their support of our event and their generous donation to our raffle giveaway! Less than 2 weeks to go!! Today I would like to thank the BC Geocaching Association (BCGA) for their support of this event! Thanks to the BCGA, we will have 10 handheld GPS units at the event to give new geocachers a hands on learning experience!
The BCGA is a support organization for geocachers in British Columbia. They hold events throughout to province to engage geocachers both familiar with the game and new to the sport, hold contests and work with volunteer reviewers to help resolve geocaching issues within the province. We are only 17 days away from event day! Today, I am pleased to announce that Lake Country Dairy Queen is our next sponsor! They have generously donated coupons for free ice cream treats to our raffle giveaway! Raffle tickets will be available to purchase on event day for $1 per ticket, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Kelowna SPCA. We will draw our winners at 7 pm on July 15th at Jack Seaton Park. Our final donation raised through our day of raffle and BBQ will be announced right here on this page after the donation has been made to the SPCA.
