I used to figure skate when I was young, but I’m certainly not young anymore. It’s been 25 years….actually closer to 30, but watching my kids skate for the last couple of years, and seeing the adult synchronized skating team work, has inspired me to try again. I kept thinking, “I could do that…maybe.” And then on our trip to Europe this spring Teresa Headon Miskie and Alisha Miskie convinced me I should try, so I bought skates. The arena was closed for maintenance, and then we were away for nearly a month, but on Sunday I took my mini coach and went to the rink. I was wobbly and uncertain as you can see from Malin’s video of me from the beginning of our little session. We skated for about another 45 minutes, and I gained a bit of confidence, but I still have a way to go.

Bummer of a setback though: as I was heading off the ice to pack up, I did one last spiral and felt a little pop at the top of my hamstring. Uh oh. Physio tells me it’s likely not torn, but he says no skating or running for the next 4 weeks while I do some rehab. Whomp whomp. So much for training for that half marathon I’m signed up for in September.

We also visited Drumheller on our journeys this summer. It’s such a fantastic place. There was golf, trail running by the river, exploring, bones, and dairy-free ice cream with Dino gummies on top!

Lions, tigers, and bears - oh my!

Very late on posting the last few days of our trip, but we had a fantastic day at the The Calgary Zoo last week. We all loved the penguins, the three different bear enclosures were all very cool, and the peacock on the roof was a big hit. Plenty of other exciting animals to see as well; when you get to the porcupine pic look VERY closely - the baby is only about 45 minutes old!
