We’ve been able to reach and impact over 100 new community members thanks to God’s provision and all of the ongoing support from our Kung-fu for Christ family.

The year ahead will hold many more
exciting events and we will continue to welcome new students. To make all of this possible, we are reaching out to all our teammates, their friends and family members, coworkers and church communities, to get sponsors, lace up their shoes, and join us for a summer walk-a-thon!

We are hosting a Kung-fu for Christ walk-a-thon fundraiser on June 27th at McLennan Park in Kitchener. Sign-in starts at 9:30am and the walk around the park will begin at 10:00am. The route is scheduled to take approximately half an hour, but everyone can walk at their own pace. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards and there will be time to socialize and play in the park and splash pad in lieu of our annual BBQ.

Throughout the month of June, participants are encouraged to collect donations from those in their network who are able to support Kung-fu for Christ’s mission. Donations can be collected physically (cash/cheque), or made online to The Great Commission. To receive a charitable receipt, donations must be made through The Great Commission. Any donations collected can be brought to the club throughout the month of June or handed in at the walk-a-thon. Our goal is to raise a total of $15,000 as a team. If everyone finds sponsors, this translates to raising less than $200 per person. So, if we all work together, we will succeed!

We thank you again for your ongoing support of Kung-fu for Christ and hope to see you at the walk-a-thon!

“It’s not supposed to be easy!”
In her devotional Laoshi Sarah reminded us that Jesus warned us that we would without a doubt would face challenges and experience troubles and trials. In Kung-fu if we only ever practiced the easy things we wouldn’t ever become better martial artists. If we want to get better we have to practice and do what we struggle with. In life if we can push ourselves outside our comfort zone and allow ourselves to be new at something and make mistakes it helps us grow. It isn’t easy to be a Christ follower, to stand up against injustices and share our faith. It is easier to keep to ourselves and stay comfortable. She reminded us to not let fear keep us from doing the hard things and to embrace challenges in order to grow.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because
you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” – James 1:2-4

The term Laoshi is reserved for a wise teacher. We use this term for our instructors, because not only do they teach people martial arts which allows them to grow many important life skills, but more importantly, they teach their students about God and help them grow in their faith. We believe teaching people about God, makes our instructors very wise teachers.

Over the last year, Zeke has been regularly presenting devotionals, leading the youth bible studies and even having one-on-one conversations with students. This is in addition to teaching people Kung-Fu and helping out around the club where needed, and even helping to make decisions around the direction of the ministry.

Laoshi Zeke, thank you for everything that you are doing for Kung-Fu for Christ, your students and our community. May God watch over and bless you and all that you are doing to grow His Kingdom.

Ruth is Kung-fu mom to many, offering words of encouragement, checking in and making sure your belt is tied correctly. If you get queasy while training she’ll look after you! Much love to Ruth as she shows us how it’s done!

“DON’T GIVE UP!”
Training in martial arts, in life and in faith we will find days where we are tired, frustrated, hurting and discouraged. We can easily loose sight of the reason we began and the easy thing to do is quit. But then we are stuck right there where we left it. If you find yourself feeling like you want to give up seek a trusted person to talk to before making that decision. You can talk to a friend or a leader who hopefully will be able to encourage you and help carry you through to keep going and try again. We only get better as we push through those tough things. There are seasons in life when we need to take a break for a time but remember not to quit in silence. Share your reasons, plans and goals with that trusted person to help guide you to make good intentional decisions. If you have quit something in the past and wish you had stuck with it, it’s never too late to try again. At Kung-fu for Christ it’s been said “once a team mate always a team mate”. If you have quit and want to try again we welcome you back! If you’ve messed up or turned away from God he will always welcome you back and meet you where you are at!

“KEEP YOUR GUARD UP”
Last week Laoshi Noah gave a great devotional about keeping your guard up.
During a conditioning class one time he heard an instructor say “If you are too tired to even throw a punch you have got to at least keep your guard up”. He talked about how when we are experiencing challenges when we are tired physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually, it makes it much more difficult to focus to make good choices and decisions. It is in these times that it becomes even more important to keep our guard up to keep ourselves on the right path and not straying from the goals we have or what God wants for us. Practising to keep our guard up physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually can keep us protected even when we are exhausted.
