His story telling and unravelling of history is eloquent and inspiring.
It's hard to believe this quiet river was once so busy, first with Algonquin peoples, then with trappers and lumber men, logs and supply farms, including the (John) Egan Farm, for whom Eganville was named (as well as the barreling Egan Chutes, on the York River, near Bancroft). Following the Bonnechere to headwaters, you can see by Roderick's representation of the height of lands, how this river leads to many river systems, travelling in all different directions: the Opeongo, Petawawa and Barren Rivers.

A must read for some historical context, delightful.
